A rather poignant example of the future we create through micro decisions—whether to use AI, software, etc. This is what Word suggested for my essay about a 16th century poem (Donne’s Twickenham Garden)
Snippet of text from a Word document where the line “the balms are ineffective” has a suggestion to change “balms to “bombs”

Odysseus to Sinon: “You know, sometimes all you need is 20 seconds of insane courage. Just, literally, 20 seconds of just embarrassing bravery”

For all the criticism of Nolan’s film, I’d like to see just one review written in dactylic hexameter

Listening to the Odyssey soundtrack while writing the final pages of my last dissertation chapter. It feels apt. At least I didn’t grow a beard for this

Hidden within the rings of ancient trees is an archive stretching back thousands of years. Today’s Essay explores the exciting discoveries dendrochronologists have made through decoding these rings. buff.ly/rmzOhXq

Hearing about these poems was the highlight I needed this week! I first came to A.M. Juster through his translations of Milton’s latin poems—such a wonderful poet and person

The english muffin is the finest carb. With fresh basil from the garden!

Know you’re getting old when a group of students thanks you when they leave the elevator, like public transit 😅

If the new Stephen Greenblatt book (…thriller novel?) gives me more distress than excitement, have I levelled up as a scholar?

“Loanword” and “borrowed” are so funny. Will the languages one day come knocking, asking for their lexemes back?

I avoid AI text partly to spare myself future embarrassment. It's like editing photos in the 2000s and thinking no one could tell (harsh vignette, over exposed—so natural). I think we’ll look back and cringe 😬

Opened a favourite book from my shelf and this guy crawled out. The book is about insects, or “lesser living creatures,” so I’m pretty sure the spider is a paid actor :)
An open book showing the table of contents with a very small spider walking across it.

Maccarony Cheese
For our inaugural recipe, we thought, why not start with an eighteenth-century mac-and-cheese?  It’s a modern-day American classic and perhaps the ultimate comfort food. This recipe co…

If you’re near DC, I highly recommend seeing “A Room in the Castle” at the Folger Theatre. It’s a truly fantastic adaptation about the women in Hamlet 💛

Planning a research trip to DC, and learned that Spike is now at the National Zoo! Possibly more exciting than visiting the Folger. It’ll be my first time seeing him in 12 years 🐘

Niels Vergouwen does it best.
Comic by Niels Vergouwen. Shooting a move, a colorful medieval town setting is covered in mud by the medieval filter to make it "properly" drab and dirty.

Does Trump mean this version of the golden age, where the guilty king is devoured by his terrible deeds and overthrown by his own child?

Had an incredible time immersed in Shakespeare over the last several days. We had a forum, symposium, and staged play reading. These are from the Friday night forum, with Emma Smith, Linc Kesler, and Aaron Pratt!

Something so entrancing about this portrait of a #Tudor fisherman, away from it all as he punts across Sturmer Mere, Essex, in 1571, surrounded by reeds, fish & swans - the #map was part of legal evidence in a dispute about fishing rights. More via blog.nationalarchives.gov.uk/blog/maps-tell…
