been reading the brothers karamazov on the recommendation of a friend and my hot take is that 19th century serial lit is functionally structured the same as serial manga. i'm reading chapter cliffhangers like wow if i was a 19th century russian reading this i'd be fucked up until the next chap

"sparrowhawk disappointed aunty moss. he stayed alive. after a day or two she gave him up for saved." laughed. not a single earthsea book goes by without a woman wanting ged dead for no real reason except for the sport of it

i swing my huge scythe so that my enemies are forced to draw in close to avoid it because i crave intimacy. it gets too real so i swing a big sword instead, forcing them to run away. the sight of them still huddling together makes me insecure so i single target everyone, forcing them to spread apart

every year for the past 5 years i've thought "this is genuinely the most stressful year of my life" and i don't know how much of that is things actually getting more stressful or if it's just that my patience and ability to cope with certain things gradually shatters each year, skewing my perception

alphinaud is not a coward because he stepped onto a garlemald warship with nothing but a vague ambassadorship to protect him just to forge peace between nations but I do think he has the energy of a boy who will not get a drink of water at night because five nights at freddys is at the fridge

read a little bit each day (sg reading streak going strong 🫡) buuut my attention span isn't always the best so i'm really only finishing 3-4 books a month

i think i had the luck of picking this up exactly when i needed it. i may not have been obsessed with the characters/plot enough for it to make an "all-timer" shelf but the themes hit me hard and made my reading experience with this the best i'd had in a long time
