Also, the background is slightly more transparent, and for some reason says it’s at 0% opacity

Subtitles with a translucent black background and classic-style flat corners over a white window. The background is slightly darker.

A settings menu showing “background opacity” and “window opacity” at 0%

@jacobstar.me In case you aren’t aware, YouTube seem to be doing a (very small) A/B test of left-aligned (unless specified), rounded corners in subtitles. Its current implementation is causing issues with the background layer (but not the window layer) when different colors are used across lines.

Web page of a video by Tom Scott titled, “These people walk towards mining disasters.” Subtitles are layered on top of the video frame; the text is left-aligned and framed by a black background with round corners.

Subtitles with different colors in each line. The corners on the left side of the second line are flattened.

Page of a video by Jet Lag: The Game titled, “We Raced to Every Train Station in Taiwan - Ep 5”. With rounded corners, the subtitles are center-justified.

Subtitles with a window layer framing the entire subtitle block instead of each line individually

Crude drawing titled “Life or death for Berryboy?” A large, blue Soyjak with a circular body sheds tears, saying, “Life!!!!!!” A group of humans surrounds it, chanting, “Death!”

I guess Martin Scorsese is a bad filmmaker? www.motionpictures.org/2023/10/new-...

Excerpt from the article: “Cote says that Robert De Niro was also very diligent about learning Osage. ‘We met every day getting the gestures right and the voice right,’ Cote said.

“‘They got very comfortable with the words, the sounds, the rhythms,’ Scorsese says. ‘In some cases, I didn’t put subtitles on the scenes because you know what’s going on. We’re deeply committed to staying true to the reality of the world in which this story unfolds.’”
