Same in CT. It's cuts cuts cuts ideology at extreme. Society way past 1980s tax/welfare revolt, past peak neolib austerity of early 2000s. Now completely culturally+socially submerged and political-economically engaged in race of cuts. No space for other creative thinking. Only cuts. @aaup.org

this really is impeachable for any president, but really grotesque coming from a regime that cut life-saving development aid because they said it was not efficient

Law folks: Is this unique to the tech companies or an example of something more widespread? Anything you’d suggest to read related to this for a complete novice on corporate structures? (I’m curious for my own research of it’s another case of the law carving out special rules for the tech industry.)

The idea that people want AI oversight to happen "all of a sudden" ignores years of research, warnings, and policy efforts. The delay hasn’t been a lack of awareness; it’s been because of years of industry lobbying against regulation, political resistance, and inaction.

Seriously - if one of OpenAI's *employees* were routinely hacking their competitors and random government websites, I feel like the reaction would be more than just vague expressions of disappointment. I'm not sure why the default is to shrug this off as the price of innovation.

If you step back it’s pretty amazing that we’ve all become so inured to Trumpco’s rampant criming that impeachment isn’t even discussed because it’s unrealistic. Nothing less than conviction, removal, and prison time does justice to the constitution. But we’re not generally talking about that.

Journalists really need to understand that even *if* their brains aren’t actively being cooked on X, being on there isn’t providing the insight into the popular mind that they think justifies their committed presence. Just leave. You’ll have a better understanding of the world.

Yes. The lean of a social media site does not mean much by itself. The question is how the site is perceived, and far too many people in positions of influence think the warped feeds they're served on X, Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok reflect the population at large. Absolutely not.

So much of what we’re living through right now, from Trump to AI, feels like it’s driven by an explicit strategy of “we just do the crimes so quickly that we can’t be stopped and by the time the courts weigh in, they have no choice but to accept our crimes.” www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/it-s-the-a...

one of the 21st century’s great tragedies is seeing a media industry gutted by decisions made by the tech industry elevate a bunch of industry shills as the people meant to help the public understand how tech works and what impacts it’s having on the world
one of the 21st century's great tragedies is that millions of smart people were convinced to bury their heads in the sand by either stochastic parrots discourse or Zitron-style capabilities denialism and haven't updated based on new evidence. nature is healing but it's so late.

Prompt engineering for physicians is a workaround for a tool that swings 50 points. See why patient safety history puts the fix in the product, not the doctor.

This is a great thread. Many of us are pretty pissed at Frenk’s lack of leadership here. He demonstrates that he neither understands what law schools do nor his own job responsibilities, especially in the face of consistent bad faith right wing attacks on the university he’s supposed to be running.
