I had a great first day at the #REBOUND2026 conference about research culture. It was somewhat refreshing to discuss such a complex topic with experts from various fields and scientific backgrounds. I had the impression that the debate has progressed […] [Original post on fediscience.org]

"Kind regards, Springer Nature" Who is the responsible editor? Sorry #SpringerNature, but this is super annoying. It is already a stretch to gift you free working time. Fine. But at least, I want to know someone on the side who is responsible for the process.

Second, Wiarda mentions "the risks of OpenScience" with regard to the misuse of openly available data or methods. This perspective or criticism of #OpenScience is not new but I am astonished how quickly it gathered steam while establishing open science in the first place feels like a crawl with […]

There is a lot to unpack in the last #WiardaBlog (science policy). As a late effect of German #Zeitenwende universities seem to discuss their #Zivilklausel which are legal recommendations to not engage in military research. I think it clearly illustrates (again) how society drives values and […]

What happened to www.goodreports.org ? Imagine building a research tool, even writing a paper about it (pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC85…), only to have the site taken by a gambling site. Embarassing! #Reporting #openscience #ResearchTransparency

@HansZauner This was a fun read! But to be honest, the line "The academy just hasn’t caught up yet" gave me thoughts. I am pretty curious how the role of the scholar or the "intellectual life" will look like in about 10-20 years. After dissecting work practices and procedures into […]

@brembs That does not sound good. Though, the editor has some authority over the process, e.g., deciding whether the review is adequate or exaggerating, at least in my experience (social science). But just ignoring the review altogether is not justifiable. Do you consider any steps?

@oatp Wow. blaming open access because the publishers have sold it. Paying £5.2m in three years for it without discussing #DOA or scholarly-led journals. This is peak.
