Minor counterpoint: The reason we should feel threatened by LLMs is that when they do get things wrong they double and triple down with high confidence until they are passed new training data. Far too many people accept the output slop at face value because they don't understand the I in AI is a lie

Hopped on Twitter a week ago to see what's goin on there. Even if you ignore the marble statue pfps, it really feels like the discover algorithm over there is very actively trying to get you mad at all times. Sometimes over the most inconsequential stuff, even. Bluesky has been surprisingly chill.

This is the exact same type of thinking we saw during Trump's last term. Trump's visible incompetence is actually part of a grand scheme that everyone else is blind to. This reasoning is applied every time Trump does something stupid but there's never any reflection to evaluate whether it's true.

That last point is so bad. It implies that what's holding the West back from striking Russia is that we don't have the "right" to do so when in reality we don't have the political will. If Russia was to violate the agreement would we then have the will? Probably not.

One of the greatest lifehacks someone taught me is to write an extremely honest reply to a stupid/bad faith post and then hold the backspace button. Helps with the need to vent without having to reply to an even stupider reply in the future.

1 is completely delusional, 2 is problematic because people underestimate Russian society's tolerance for suffering if they rally around the flag. We know from past experience 1 is destined to fail. With 2 there are still many unknowns which is also why accurate predictions are impossible right now
