Trump’s illegal power grab: what you need to know

Trump isn’t governing. He’s launching a coup against the American people. His executive order freezes billions in federal funding for food, housing, education, and healthcare. All to benefit billionaires like Elon Musk.

What Trump did:

Froze federal grants & loans, putting schools, housing, and aid programs at risk.

Gave Elon Musk access to federal payments data, letting him interfere in funding.

Bypassed Congress to rewrite the balance of power and control federal spending.

Enabled Project 2025 architect Russell Vought to cut programs based on MAGA politics.

Why it’s illegal:

Congress controls spending. Trump can’t override this power legally.

The Impoundment Control Act of 1974 (ICA) bans withholding funds without process.

Supreme Court precedent confirms presidents can’t unilaterally freeze funds.

Giving Musk control over funding is unconstitutional. He’s unelected, he’s unaccountable, and he’s dangerous.

The human cost of Trump’s power grab

Trump froze federal funding, cutting off resources millions of Americans rely on to survive. His actions block food, housing, healthcare, and education, forcing Americans into crisis.

Kids lose meals. Schools can’t serve lunch, leaving millions of children hungry. Parents struggle to afford food.

Families face eviction. Without housing assistance, landlords push families out. Rural communities lose critical support.

Parents lose jobs. Childcare grants disappear, forcing mothers and fathers to quit work because they can’t afford care.

What needs to happen immediately

Senate Democrats must act.

Shut down the Senate. Block all business until Trump’s freeze is rescinded.

Reject Russell Vought’s nomination. He’s a key enabler of this attack.

Expose Republicans. Force them to answer why they support Trump’s chaos.

Call out Republicans and ask them:

If law enforcement asks about your immigration status

Stay calm. Don’t run, argue or resist. You have the right to remain silent. Don’t lie or provide false documents. If asked for immigration papers, you must show them if you have them. If an officer asks to search you, you can say no.

If you are stopped by police, ICE, or Border Patrol

Stay calm. Don’t obstruct officers. You have the right to remain silent - say it out loud. You don’t have to consent to a search. If arrested, you have the right to a lawyer. ICE won’t provide one. Don’t answer questions about your immigration status. Memorize phone numbers of family and a lawyer.

If police or ICE come to your home

Do not open the door unless agents show a warrant signed by a judge. Ask them to slide the warrant under the door or show it through a window. You have the right to remain silent - say so out loud. If they force entry, don’t resist, but state: “I do not consent to this search.”

If you are detained or arrested

Gaetz accepted gifts that are not allowed (transportation and lodging for trips to the Bahamas) exceeding legal thresholds without disclosing. He also provided official favors to personal connections, like assisting a woman with a passport application.

He refused to cooperate with the Ethics Committee, failing to comply with subpoenas and ignoring requests for information. He publicly mischaracterized the investigation and provided limited documentation.

Financial records, witness testimony, text messages that corroborate payments for sexual activity and drug use. Gaetz allegedly used a pseudonymous email account to conceal transactions. Witnesses indicated a transactional understanding of interactions with Gaetz.

He resigned during the investigation following a nomination of Attorney General, which was later withdrawn. The Ethics Committee still published the findings, citing public interest.

Imagine a country where the wealthy manipulate elections ( #plutocracy ), elites control resources ( #oligarchy ), incompetence and corruption reign ( #kakistocracy ), leaders steal public funds ( #kleptocracy ), and the system swings between democracy and dictatorship ( #anocracy ).

Definitions:

Oligarchy: a government system/power structure where a small group of wealthy, powerful, or influential people control decision-making. Power is (in)formally concentrated in the hands of a few.

Anocracy: a mix of democracy and authoritarianism. This structure creates instability, with blurred rules and power struggles. Leaders exploit instability to weaken institutions and gain unchecked power.

Plutocracy: an oligarchy ruled specifically by the wealthy. Policies and decisions favor the rich, leaving the rest of the population struggling.

Kleptocracy: a government built on corruption, where leaders steal from the poor and give to themselves. Infrastructure crumbles while the rich get richer.

Kakistocracy: rule by the least qualified and most corrupt people. Incompetence results in poor decision-making and mismanagement that harms society.

Let’s talk about term limits for U.S. presidents. The 22nd Amendment is clear: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.” That’s 2 terms. TOTAL. Consecutive or not. End of story. 2016 = Term 1 2024 = Term 2 2 terms. Running again violates the constitution.
