You probably didn't. Gods in my setting are very good at not dying. But since that's dodging the premise, what happens is that you take their place, receiving their powers and responsibilities as you assume their office. You basically become them and no one notices much of a difference.

I love reading about them in the novels because there's always a monologue about how close they are to extinction and how every Eldar life is irreplaceable and then they jump into a meat grinder for no clear reason and get slaughtered with a dying battle-cry of "This will all make sense some day!"

I am a bit curious about this specific list. The most likely scenario is that after the battle they recorded the name of everyone they captured, but the random thief's name was on it, so apparently they were willing to update the list as they went along.

I can't speak for everyone, but about 75% of your shout-out games make it to my wish list. From there the odds of actual purchase do drop a bit since I sadly lack the funds to buy most of the games that are on my wish list, but I can usually get a couple of them each month.

I think the thing that bothers me the most about it is that they don't seem to realize how close they are to extinction. Like, you visit the capitol of the second biggest faction in the galaxy and it's a small frontier town with a few hundred inhabitants, maybe less.

When that one issue is their survival, I think it's justified. Tactically speaking, I don't think you're going to have a lot of success berating people into sacrificing themselves or their loved ones. Alliances work both ways; allies don't throw you under the bus for public approval.

I've long thought that the various D&D gobos would work better as an individual progression path à la Pokémon than as separate races. Goblin > Hobgoblin > Bugbear. Maybe even throw in Ogre at the end for the overachievers.
