Out recording on a nice sunny day after a week of rain and wind. Everyone is excited and cheerful on the streets so crowd recordings are very dynamic full of laughter. Bumped into a soup festival on the way with a perfect mix of Dutch and Internatiional languages.

I’ve been recording exterior crowds for about a decade. Most of these recordings are done in public spaces (terraces - cafes) to build a big library to sell online (for film and games). This week i had another great opportunity, the Eclipse attracted lot’s of people. The Sound of the 2026 Eclipse!

Experienced Seven Samurai in 4K (restored). Utterly awesome film. Blown away by this 1954 masterpiece! Minimalistic soundtrack works well with balanced mix of music and sound effects! Loved the Grey Warbler in the opening scene!

Saw“Her Name Was Moviola” by Howard Berry and legend Walter Murch yesterday. The movie is an insightful funny ‘tutorial’ on how to edit film on a Moviola. My main takeaway from Murch is that editing is a performative action, not a rational process. How he does it?…..

Had a blast recording a Citroen 2CV for the animation #MissMoxy! Supervising sound designer Jan-Willem van den Brink was driving (madly!). I rigged the car and record passbys and effects with help of intern George Ammerlaan! Thanks to 2CV Sander Aalderink for the car!

Bought a pair of Crown PZM30b (boundary microphones) recently for the purpose of recording vehicle interiors. I've been doing #auditions with them and am impressed with their sound.
