Magic is cast collaboratively - players choose a Spell Note from their character sheet and combine it with a Spell Note provided in the environment (by the GM, called a "Conductor"). Then, they decide what this phrase does and the GM determines a cost. Magic is a creative outlet!

So, the most interesting thing about this game (of which there are many) is that it very deliberately tackles something that gets a lot of conversational support but ends up being a lot more complicated to pull off in practice, and that's positive, contributory adventuring.
