Teacher, Latinist, Thought Follower. Neither the son of true believers nor of good reputation. Once translated Marcus Aurelius, but I don't speak for him. (Neither of us speaks for UVA.) Minor outlying island. Can serve briefly as a boat. He/him.

Isn't this why a lot of lower-income people go out and buy something large (big screen TV or whatev) with their tax refund? Otherwise it just disappears in dribs and drabs and it feels like you have nothing to show for it.

Where do Bessent and Hassett fall? Both very vizier-like in affect, but I think Hassett may actually be a Boyar.

Dreamed it was my first morning of teaching a weeklong @rarebookschool.bsky.social course on The Literature of the First World War, a minor issue being that I have no expertise in this area and had done zero preparation.

TBC, I don't think they came up with the live-streaming plan primarily in hopes of improving his poll numbers; I think it was about cruelty and bloodlust and fascist love of spectacle, for both him and Hegseth. But he was clearly very surprised by the backlash.

Trump sometimes shows an uncanny sense for what will be popular, and other times just completely whiffs. Like in 2016 when his staff had to patiently explain to him that he wasn't going to win NY, or when he thought pardoning Rod Blagojevich was going to make him very popular in IL.

The emperor Theodosius had two sons, Honorius and Arcadius. It's interesting that Honorius produced a (once) common first name in France and Arcadius a (still) common first name in Russia, but in each case only one name gets traction. (Is that right?)

In the novel it makes perfect sense because they’ve been campaigning in the east, but the movie wants to work in a little joke about how the British are primitive barbarians
