So I love learning about language differences that people don’t realise are A Thing. Go ahead and ask people what they call some of these things in their native language. (I suspect this will be an ever-evolving topic.)

You ever see someone make enough of a pig’s ear out of fixing something that you can see the moment when they give up and just order a new one?

Noticed a concerning cyst-like thing on the cat’s gum line last night and promptly booked her into the vet this morning. Was told that those are, in fact, just cat gums. And are actually quite healthy. I mean, £52 for peace of mind at least? 🙃

Apparently oysters are aphrodisiacs. Perhaps not this one. 😬
We are looking at a close up of a medieval drawing of a circular oyster painted brown with a beak - the oyster has teeth.

Getting to hang out in the outer burbs of London today as we wait for a tow truck to drag us home.
View from inside a parked car looking through the windscreen at a petrol station wall and product display. A thin, curved crack in the windscreen runs downward from near the top edge of the glass, with two small dark chip points along the line. The crack is clearly visible against the bright exterior background of white brickwork and shelves of automotive fluid containers.

Why is my dishwasher suggesting an UNO reverse on me?
A Siemens dishwasher control panel displaying error indicators: a red ‘S’ symbol resembling a UNO reverse card, a WiFi symbol, and a blue brush symbol illuminated on the black display screen. The panel shows a temperature setting of 65° and features including ‘Speed’, ‘Favourite’, ‘Start in … hr.’ and ‘Remote Start’ options. A chrome-plated dishwasher rack roller wheel is visible in the foreground, with the unit’s beige control strip and WiFi connectivity information visible above the main display.

The Creation of Adam ✨wishes✨ it was so iconic.
A close-up of a cat’s white paw gently touching a person’s curled finger. The cat, partially visible from behind, has a white, brown, and black striped coat and is resting on a red knitted blanket. The person wears a dark knitted jumper, and only their hand and part of their torso are in frame, creating a tender moment of connection between human and animal.

Holy shit y’all. I know I feel better (and colder) and that I’ve been losing weight, but look at the difference a year makes.
Split image showing two bathroom mirror selfies of the same person taken a year apart. Top image dated 14 January 2025 shows the person with braided hair, round glasses and a black top, holding a phone, with on-image text reading “What a year of weight loss looks like in bathroom selfies” and “–31.5 kg / –69.5 lb”. Bottom image dated 17 January 2026 shows the same person with hair worn back, the same glasses and a black sleeveless top, holding a phone in a different bathroom, appearing slimmer in the face and shoulders.

My mom hates snakes. And then moved back to Texas. So we love to wind her up with snakes.
Screenshot of a messaging app in dark mode. At the top is a group chat titled “The Goose-Eppi Appreciatio…” with a circular profile image of a cartoon goose wearing a red beret; small UK and Italian flags appear behind the goose. A back arrow is on the left and a video call icon on the right.

A grey message bubble reads: “The 40th trip is being planned! Dad really wants to go to Japan… me, not so much. At least not right now. I’ve found a juicy cruise from Barcelona to Tangiers, then Portugal, then Cadiz, Spain, and back to Barcelona. 9 days 😊”

Below it, another grey bubble says: “On Celebrity. Never cruised with them before.”

On the right are two blue reply bubbles. The first says: “Sounds perfect for you!” The second says: “And can let dad try his Spanish again”. A small thumbs-up reaction icon appears nearby.Screenshot of a messaging app in dark mode showing the same group chat, titled “The Goose-Eppi Appreciatio…”, with the cartoon goose in a red beret as the group icon and a back arrow on the left, video call icon on the right.

A grey message bubble near the top says: “Let us know when you book and I’ll call celebrity and see what we can sort.” Beneath it is a short grey reply reading: “Thanks”.

Further down, a longer grey message bubble contains quoted text: “My in-laws are both massive herpetologists and are going on your cruise for their 40th. It’s be a lovely surprise if you could decorate their cabin snake themed”.

At the bottom, another grey message responds: “If that were to happen, I would never speak to you again.”

Okay, firstly where do the cans go? And secondly, what maniac chose the bin colour scheme? Brown for recycling? Madness.
Printed sign detailing bin colour codes for refuse and recycling. The categories are bolded and read: “Grey bin – All waste”, “Blue bin – Paper & Cardboard”, “Brown bin – Glass & Plastics”, and “Green bin – Garden waste”. The heading “Refuse & Recycling” is underlined and bolded.

There’s a story to be had here.
Two printed signs are taped to a white wall. The top sign reads, in bold and underlined text: “DUE TO UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES THIS IS NOW A UNISEX TOILET.” The lower sign says: “SORRY FOR THE INCONVIENCE CAUSED.” Both contain spelling errors—“unforseen” instead of “unforeseen” and “inconvience” instead of “inconvenience.”

It’s moving day today, and I’m currently keeping a cat from having a nervous breakdown by sitting with her in the bathroom as Dr B and the movers empty the house.

A story in two acts.
A news summary graphic from the “Daily Gazette Standard” titled “Daily Catch-up” features two headlines about a former Colchester mayor. Both stories are accompanied by the same image of an elderly man in ceremonial robes and a chain of office, raising a black and yellow flag in a town square with historic buildings in the background. The first headline reads, “Ex-Colchester Mayor says we need an ‘Auschwitz camp minus the ovens’ for migrants.” The second headline states, “Ex-mayor resigns as honorary alderman after ‘Auschwitz camp’ comments.”

Wasn’t expecting to have to save a MASSIVE dragonfly from a cat walloping this morning. It’s as big as her face!
A dragonfly with a green thorax, brown-striped abdomen, and large, veined translucent wings rests on a textured dark blue surface. The wings display a slight golden tint along the leading edges. Next to the dragonfly lies a small wooden stirrer, providing a sense of scale and highlighting the insect’s delicate but sizable form.

A close-up of a metallic green beetle perched on a car window, featuring a vivid, iridescent body and notably large, darkly segmented hind thighs that curve outward, giving the insect a robust and muscular appearance.
