Everything I’ve used for accessibility has gotten worse, not better subtitles I had relied on are unreadable/inaccurate, step by step instructions are worse than ever, translations where I know the other language have ambiguity I worry about in situations like immigration where nuance matters

I've been using LLMs in my work in accessible technology for a decade. Our field was one of the first that the AI industry jumped into. Instead of it being used carefully to help create access, it's being sold by disingenuous tech bros as an accessibility panacea, and destroying our industry.

Please stop hedging about programming every time you critique AI. I am sick of hearing non-programmers say things like, "I know that programmers are all using this now, but..." No, stop. We are not all using it. You make the non-users feel like the world has gone mad every time you say this.

If you have someone who is familiar with the game but far enough from development to be objective, they can summarize review trends for you and maybe grab quotes to highlight popular takeaways, which helps prioritize feedback. You can also partner with other indie devs and do this for each other.

Amanda Harper @ariadnegames.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
and launch into fixing something before you fully understand the problem. In that same vein, it can be easy to dwell on especially well-written or convincing reviews that are advocate for things most of your players don't want, especially if you have a compulsion to fix every problem immediately.

Amanda Harper @ariadnegames.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Most game devs I know are reflexive fixers; if someone tells them about a problem, they're working on solutions before that person has finished explaining. If that's you as well, it can be really important to take a beat and engage with feedback when you're less likely to get overstimulated

Amanda Harper @ariadnegames.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
I only read any reviews (good, bad, neutral) when I'm feeling prepared and calm; a bad review can be hard to read, but it's worse when it's what starts your day or if you've just spilled coffee on yourself or something.

I frequently see "AI" boosters implying that LLMs are simply an innate and superior part of coding now, inescapable, and that literally all programmers agree with them. And, well. That, too, is a form of propaganda
Looking at my software peers in 2026 I see fatigued faces, I see frustration, and I see a lot of people looking for a way out of an industry that seems poised on the brink of collapse. LLMs are being pushed on us at every turn, most people seem at best frustrated by them, and ultimately they seem to appeal most to people who see the production of software as a purely mechanical means to an end. They are antithetical, however, to the idea of software as a craft, or something requiring both initial and ongoing care. As an expression of the soul.

When a game studio ships a solid game, it creates TWO valuable products: 1. A solid game. 2. The team that spent years learning how to work together make a game. Because Western studios keep disbanding #2 while development cycles get longer; we will inevitably see less of #1.

You could do all sorts of things to mitigate the objections to these major LLM deployments, but I don't care, as long as they're still parasitic. That, in and of itself, will harm us, our culture, our society, and our institutions.

We're stoked to introduce the 'No Gen AI' seal for indie games! Indie devs can use it on their game's store page to assure potential players that their game was made without the use of Generative AI. You can grab it from the Polygon Treehouse website:- www.polygon-treehouse.com/no-gen-ai-seal
A graphical asset in the shape of a cog. It contains the following text 'This developer assures that NO GEN AI' was used in this indie game

This is such a nice set of features. The AI disclosure gating is amazing but I also love that it makes it a little harder for people to just submit an old project to dozens of jams where that's against the rules

That's so stupid, it has to be a troll. Claiming moral opposition to something is actually FOMO is nonsense when there's been zero barrier to entry for it for years now. If indie devs were solely afraid that the GIGO machine was going to enflame competition, they'd just also use the GIGO machine.

A few months ago I started wondering if not using LLMs for coding right now would be a detriment to me as a programmer, but I concluded that the idea is nonsensical. I could start Not Writing My Own Code at any moment, and having stopped programming 2 years ago wouldn’t make me a better programmer.

During my college years men were always coming out of the woodwork to say I wasn't a real programmer because they thought a mystery third party must be writing all my code. Now, years later, there are people (mostly men) insisting that people writing their own code aren't real programmers.

Also "useful" is any incredibly low bar to clear and it's kind of weird to latch onto that as like, the discussion to be had around LLMs. Something can be useful without being a good tool for every job. Certain people in tech leadership had this same fallacy around blockchain and NFTs.

This is a really great thread about the "listen to software engineers" argument I'm seeing a lot of, but I want to also add that some of the most vociferous criticism I've heard about the way companies use genAI and how divorced the marketing is from reality has come from other software engineers.
