If you have an iPhone >= 15 and a bit of free space, I recommend you demystify AI for yourself a bit my running a model right on the iPhone. It’s not a million monkeys in a datacenter or a grand conscious brain. Load a model, turn off WiFi/network, ask a question. apps.apple.com/de/app/local...

Fun fact: Did you know that in the Soviet Union, you had to stand in line for an hour every month, just to pick up the prescriptions you needed in order to survive for the next 30 days? Paid insurance didn’t even cover all of the costs! I know, it’s hard to believe, but true. Oh wait. That’s us.

The joke was to do with the Roman coin from Brutus. But i imagine in your Dad’s line of work there would be coins, bones, beans and marbles. In NZ there was the coin in the pudding tradition that caused ER visits I’m sure.

The phrase “large enough to be seen from space” is so disconnected from the realities of resolution of spy satellite images … from the 70s.

When I started writing about Supreme Court expansion, you couldn’t get the question *asked* in a poll. The first time I saw it actually polled, it was 8%. Now, we here.

As completely deranged and fucked up and wrong as he is, I gotta say it is stressful to have the damn president of the United States constantly attacking my state of Minnesota, sending violence, calling for violence, putting all lives at risk, killing our neighbors. Like it really takes a toll.

Howsoever the Artcraft folk have built their "clean room" Rust versions of the Adobe Creative Cloud, they have at least delivered one thing that Adobe has promised for years and singularly failed to even ship a beta... ...an ARM 64 version of Lightroom for Windows.
A list of downloadable Windows binaries for an application, including ARM64 amongst the usual x64 and x86 builds.

News from me: there are two versions of OpenAI's Navier-Stokes proof, one for humans, one for computers. Now it seems that they don't match. That does NOT mean OpenAI hasn't solved Navier-Stokes (both proofs can be correct) but it does mean that there are big questions about trusting AI mathematics

(my personal favourite story is we wouldn't have had deep learning if Microsoft Research hadn't given a summer research grant to a student who wanted to prove his professor's approach worked for speech recognition; it works and his professor goes off and build speech rec for Google)

it's rare for Microsoft to assert their role in the history of computing so interesting to see Satya and Jensen reminishing on stage; Nvidia was founded because PCs in the Windows 3.11 era made it possible to put a decent graphics card on someone's desk, without DIrectX you don't get CUDA and so ML

if you don't have CUDA and the HPC work Microsoft did and the investment Azure made in Infiniband, Microsoft could never have built the training compute for OpenAI and ChatGPT wouldn't have brought transformers out of the lab

People in my comments are arguing that there’s no way Claude can clone Photoshop without decompiling the binaries. My brother in Christ, you can literally tell Claude to click around an app on your phone or laptop then rebuild the app from scratch. Every surface feature of an app is now clonable.
