There are better ways to govern data centers. This reductive nonsense implies we must choose between national power and protecting people and nature, creating a false binary. National power helps secure public goods. Internet silliness like this works very well for US competitors and adversaries.

The subsidy risk to Alaskans is too high to gamble with. For starters, if tax concessions are actually needed to ensure project financability, then share the proprietary information proving it. Even hinting at some need to give away too much public revenue value is absurd. No project is worth that.

This is a financing hierarchy challenge, and not going well. Japan is the key as a client to drive pre-FID, enabling FEED, then actual FID. So far, they are non-commital and the global market is difficult to gauge after 2030 given the rest of the decade is a lock against new supply.

Venezuela has ~125 times more oil in the ground than Alaska, with about 8-10 times the potential for oil production. Moreover, heavy oil processing in Louisiana and Texas makes Venezuela far more attractive than Alaska based on shipping alone.
