This is exactly what I keep thinking lately too. It is inevitable. There are so many of us, and our love for each other (and even for them, however misplaced) is greater than their love for power and greed and destruction. This might take decades, but we WILL win. It is inevitable.

Humans can choose to live as chimpanzees or bonobos. And every day we acquiesce to the chimps, with their hierarchies of violence and social dominance. Meanwhile, the bonobo-natured of us could expeditiously [redacted] and have a flat society built on mutual aid and camaraderie. It’s a choice.

At what point does something stop being linguistic differences and start being stupidity? brought to you by: "Democrats do 360s on every policy position" It's arguably an alternate meaning, sort of like "could care less", and I know some people will see 360 as a turn around rather than what it is.

I can't believe I let people convince me to go into debt to do busy work instead of just working on starting my career. It's really hitting me now at 27 that multiple of my career goals did not need higher education, especially at the investment cost I put into it. boomers, man. "it worked for us!"

I hate to necro-bump an old post, and double hate to harp again on this topic, but---look, My experiences with the worst misapplications of Christianity's ideas usually came in the form of self sacrifice and not wanting to be "selfish", often to the point of self-neglect (and arguably, harm).

Chiming in to support this also. I have literally never met a lazy person, and I am becoming increasingly confident that such a person does not exist. I could explain more, but I'd just be performing for those who refuse to open their eyes and see for themselves. "lazy" deflects blame onto others.

I think there is a time coming in the near future where we are going to be picking out low quality LLM-pasted code from places it never should have been in the first place, and it might honestly be easier to start from scratch with a lot of projects. I worry about a lot of FOSS stuff especially.

not using :3 for 2018 to 2022 has somewhat been a conscious choice ("only weird, cringe internet catgirls/-boys use that") but also a cultural thing in the spaces i was in. i did use ^-^ (and its variations like ^^, ^_^, etc.) though instead as similar expression! idk what happened 2022.
Rate of “:3” and “^-^” in my Discord messages per month

The :3 variations show a few peaks around 2018 and then it really started picking up in mid-2022.

The ^-^ variations show even larger peaks around 2018 to 2021. There was a small peak but lower than :3 starting in 2022 to 2024.

The "massive weekly grocery haul" is a symptom of car-dependent sprawl, not a universal rule of life. Healthy cities don't force you to drive to a warehouse store. Good design makes grabbing fresh food a quick, passive part of your daily walk or bike commute. These straw men arguments bore me.

So much of this doomerism worst case fantasy crap seems to be intentionally designed to fill you with fear about a hypothetical potential future while conveniently clawing your attention away from the present moment because this present moment is where all the bad people are getting away with shit.

shower thought: Offering a blanket "Reach out any time, I'm always here to talk if you need!" is not support. It opens the door to support, but it is an entirely idle and actionless gesture. Open doors are a blessing and a gift, but remember that you might need to actually reach through that door.

After some web searching, this is 100% the one. I remember it fondly, especially his groovy planets for eyes.
Front cover of the Peter Max paper airplane book, featuring a stylized portrait of a man with long hair and a moustache, and a paper airplane.

"33 Flying Planes, Fold'em & Fly'em"
"Everyday is "EARTHDAY"...Love the Earth, please don't litter with planes"Rear cover of the Peter Max paper airplane book.

The top section shows a ringed gas giant with moons and stars all around, with an image of a man floating among the objects.

Below, a text box contains:

JOY (AND FUN) IS...

A Paper airplane that flies...

A Paper Airplane designed by Peter Max, the famous champion of Love, Peace and Beauty.

A Paper Airplane that is beautiful, graceful and made by you!

With this book you can launch your own fleet of Paper Airplanes that Fly, in aerodynamic Love colors-each one bearing a message from you as it soars off into the wild blue yonder.

Join the Air-borne Generation. Send love notes to the universe. But don't-please don't be a litterbug.

Oh my god, I think I had an old copy of that paper airplane book about 20 years ago! I recognized the style immediately. It is a shame because I think I more or less destroyed the book by making planes out of it, but in my defense I was 8 and it was just an old book to me. RIP to a legend.

The second hound stands on the darker grass, shrouded in shadow and showing it's teeth. It pulls away from the first hound, with a chain around it's ankle that is attached to the first hound.

The image is of a four panel comic.
In panel one, we see a man sitting at a restaurant table. He is sweating. He says "Y-you have beautiful eyes".
The second panel zooms in on the man's face. He says, "I'm sorry. I'm just so nervous."
In panel three we see that a biblically accurate angel is sitting on the other side of the table.
In panel four we zoom in on the angel's face, who says "BE NOT AFRAID".

A comic of two foxes, one of whom is blue, the other is green. In this one, Blue is sitting down while Green is bothering him, nibbling on the tip of Blue's ear with his teeth.
Blue: What are you doing?
Green: Nibbling your ear.
Blue: Why?
Green: Because it's there.
Blue: ...Where else would it be?
Green: Migrating to the other side of your head to escape the nibbles.
