ordered two potentially push encoder replacements for the V-Synth XT along with a desoldering station. the latter was after I tried to desolder it The Old Fashioned Way and realized fuck this shit, I don’t care if I do this 1-2 times per year, those times are gonna suck a lot less with good tools.

This is the sort of nonsense I thought we outgrew last decade.

The new Firefox tab bar, with a pinned Twitch tab, a blank tab, a Bluesky tab, and a Google search tab for "firefox". There is no meaningful visual separation between tabs aside from being able to tell where one ends by the close button, the selected tab has a rounded selection, and the pinned tab and tab after have literally no separation between them.

The gradient on the chrome feels like change for the sake of change, which is whatever, but the way tabs look now is actually a pretty significant hit to usability. Not sure if it's "use a fork or switch to Chrome" bad, but it's not good.

The new @firefox.com UI sucks, largely because they completely fucked up the tab bar. The implied click target for pinned tabs is baby-size (thankfully the actual click target is still rectangular), and they removed any obvious visual separation between tabs. Mystifying decision-making going on.

Loved that game as a kid. Got a used copy with no manual so I couldn’t figure out anything. Ended up renting it so my dad could photocopy the manual. Probably still have that spiral bound copy somewhere.

if GitHub’s problems are the fault of LLMs, it probably has a lot more to do with the massive volume increase (due to AI commits, PRs, etc.) than the site’s engineers vibe coding or whatever

Civ 2 on PS1 wasn’t the best version of Civ 2, but it was a weird part of my childhood. I love 5 and 6, but there was a whimsy in earlier installments that got lost along the way a little bit. You could even choose your civ’s architectural style!

The advisor screen in the PS1 version of Civ 2. All of the portraits are FMVs of people dressed in ancient Roman garb. The domestic advisor is inexplicably an Elvis impersonator, complete with sunglasses.
