Street of the Week: Campbell Street This street was built in the mid 1870s on what was then part of the Dudhope Estate. At the time the estate was owned by William MacBean Rankine, who inherited the estate from a distant relative, Richard Gardner in 1862.

This the rear of the 3 storey tenement which sat on the corner of Hawkhill and 2 Small's Wynd. A back court entrance divides the two buildings and runs the length of the rear of the buildings to Wallace's Pend. Date: August 1928 Reference: GD/MUS230/5/7 #Dundee #Archives

Next month marks the 67th anniversary of the #Auchengeich Colliery Disaster. 47 miners were suffocated following an underground fire To mark the anniversary Summerlee Museum is displaying a collection of items relating to Auchengeich Colliery & the 1959 disaster lent by Harry & Michelle Lycett-Nutt

Street of the Week: Benvie Road You would expect maybe that Benvie Road was a road that led to Benvie, but this is not so. The name was decided at a Commissioners meeting in 1870 but its possible that the street and the buildings on it weren't built for a couple of years.

This is Trooper Gilbert Fenion photographed around 1918. Gilbert joined the Scottish Horse regiment on the 28th of September 1914, he was 21 years old. Gilbert was a postman before joining the Scottish Horse.
