“General anesthesia today is often likened, colloquially, to sleep. But what it does to the brain is stranger… To render someone so deeply unconscious, anesthesia shuts down multiple distinct functions in the nervous system, making a patient insensate, paralyzed, and unable to form memories.”

That said, if you would like to win a signed copy, just repost this AND the post above. As a bonus, I'll throw in a signed copy of my OOP Sunburst Prize-shortlisted collection Over the Darkened Landscape. Yes, I'll mail them to you, *no matter where you are.*
Two books side by side. Napier's Bones, on the left, has a disembodied hand with numbers on it over an old city map of what is probably Edmonton (where some of the books takes place). Over the Darkened Landscape, on the right, has an odd-looking character whose head is embedded in a painter's canvas with tree's growing from it, and he is holding a small dog.

About 50 people crammed into the court room to hear the decision, which took Murray 10 minutes to deliver. Applause broke out as she stood, with people openly crying from relief, from happiness, from feeling like someone in power understood the urgency of the crisis.

A little narwhal in the style of a medieval curio, mounted on a panel. Two ideas were overlapping in my mind: Narwhals’ tusks can distinguish changes in water temperature and chemistry; the horns of unicorns purify water and detect poison. 🦄 - #SciArtSeptember Day 9: Ivory
A photo of a small narwhal sculpture on a patterned board. The narwhal is made from white clay and coloured to resemble ivory. The piece rests on a wooden table next to a penny, for scale.

This thing seems to be out in the open now, so even though publication’s eight months away, let’s drum up some early interest, shall we? Wayfarers is out next April. Here’s the cover.
A book cover. Wayfarers: The Incredible Story of Animal Migration, by Lev Parikian. It’s mostly blue, with swirling patterns representing movement, and stylised images of various migrating animals (butterflies, terns, a whale, bats, wildebeest, dragonflies, penguins, an arctic fox) dotted about the place.
