i don't believe that. i don't believe men are untrustworthy, uncontrollable, and irredeemable. maybe i've read too much bell hooks, but i don't believe that men benefit from patriarchal conditioning or rape culture in the ways these attitudes and statements would have us believe.

this is why i don't place much stock in heteropessimism or biological essentialism. attitudes like this put forth a rationale that men can't help but be sexual predators, because they're hardwired for it. this also posits that it is a woman's fault for being harmed if she shares space with a man.

i fully understand that tensions are high right now and many women are on edge, but this is exactly the kind of thing that white women say to justify calling the cops on black and brown men for existing in public. please get better talking points.

If you are viciously attacked by a poodle, you’re likely going to be nervous around poodles, even if not all poodles plan to attack you. We think this is reasonable. When you consider that nearly all women have been harassed or assaulted by a man, why is it not also reasonable here?
