Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 11/10/2026But over my lifetime, every promise of right-wing economics has been broken or shown to be empty. After a while you realise you don't have to care what this month's justification for why we're not allowed nice things because next month's will be different. 100
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 11/10/2026When I was younger people had to deal with the very real problem of Communism for why the world could not be a better place. If you were left wing, you had to justify why mass murder and authoritarianism was good and it was a real problem. 100
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 11/10/2026This means huge chunks of right-wing economic theory are just justifications for rich people to justify getting richer. There are no ideas or insights backing them and you honestly don't have to fight the battle of ideas with them. 100
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Thankfully I'm older and very much aware that people do horrible things just because they can and justifications are purely so they can justify exercising their power, to turn their evil into a noble act. 100
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 11/10/2026One mistake I made when I was younger was being open to right-wing economic ideas because I just could not believe that the people running our countries were selfish arseholes who would sell other people for their own benefit. 200
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 10/10/2026Of course, once I went through that, I do remember coming to the realisation that simple friendship could be enough to keep me on an even keel. That was mind blowing as I genuinely didn't know if I would be capable. 010
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 10/10/2026I went through therapy and it pretty much saved my life, but that was only because my level of repression was so high that trying to let it out was volcano erupting levels of bad. No group of friends could seriously bear that, nor should they. 120
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 10/10/2026I was watching Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and thinking that Starfleet, being the forward looking diplomatically aware entity that it is, must have some fun laws about being drunk and hungover at work. In that it's probably prohibited, but then there's all the Klingon diplomacy exceptions. 200
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Like, no offence, but that's what they did with the Cass Report against trans people and it worked out well for them, so why change? 191

Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 07/10/2026It's raining hard outside and looks like it will continue doing so all day. I don't think I've been so happy to see rain as I am today in recent times. 100
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 06/10/2026And El is such a great character. Spending time with her is rewarding. I am totally a sucker for terrible dark sorceresses who just desperately want friends and a reason not to turn to the dark side. Her own self loathing when she is doing the right thing is brilliant. 000
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Idiot me did it the second time too. In a testament to the writing, the plot twists were there all along. Knowing what they were didn't change the first two books on a reread. The author never lied. I love that in a novel. 100
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 06/10/2026If I have any complaints it's that I stayed up reading late - again. The transition from book 2 to 3 is one of the most brutal. It caused me to read until 3-4 in the morning, buy the next book immediately and read the next 20 pages before sleeping the first time. 100
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 06/10/2026I was thinking of the Scholomance trilogy by Naomi Novik recently and decided to do a reread as I couldn't remember all the details. It was as good the second time around as the first time 100
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Of course, once I got a traitor role twice in a row in a game, which was very unlikely. I flunked the first round so bad that when it came to the second round, merely keeping a straight face won me the game, so 🤷🏼♀️ 010
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 06/10/2026I would also hate being a Traitor. I pretended to be someone else for years and it destroys you. Just playing any game with a traitor mechanic brings me terrible flashbacks to that. I was so bad I got a reputation about being terrible with a group of friends. 110
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 06/10/2026This is where the players are going to find potential answers for why the golems went mad. Are the answers real? Or another false trail in a long line of dead ends? And will the other factions respond? The players get to find out! 020
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 06/10/2026My DnD players will be beginning Adventure 3, which is the finale of Act 1, where after a bit of adventure of the week format, I'll be kicking off the main quest line going through the campaign. The title is The Golem Laboratory. 110

Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Of course, execution usually means dumping people in the wilderness and letting the golems kill them. Unfortunately for them, our little goblin grew up in this wilderness. The lives of goblins are grubby and short... 000
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 03/10/2026If anyone is wondering why he got "executed" in this setting, there's lots of magic items in the Ruined Lands and players come across a lot of magic items, but weapons need to go to those guarding against the golems. So there is a safe on every ship to enforce that. Breaking in is a capital offence. 100
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 03/10/2026But it has been weirdly stressful and I'm sad to lose our goblin chaos gremlin. He was a lot of fun, even when derailing things. However, the new character the goblin player is proposing sounds fun, and our little goblin is an NPC now. Mwahaha. 100
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 03/10/2026The real shock is that the goblin player basically crossed a line that forced his "execution" at the end and another player had to deliver the verdict. I'm proud of my players for getting through that well. Everyone behaved well throughout and checked in outside of their characters if it was fine. 100
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 03/10/2026In my campaign recently, my players finally completed the crashed gnomish city! They used their clever ruse with the book of rules to enable them to leave, established a chapter of the Guardians (the anti-golem force) in the city and got out with less magical gear than I thought they would. 100

Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 29/09/2026This is why I have friends who tell me to put the AI down sometimes... They are right. 001
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Meanwhile, my computer game and the open source project are going fine, thanks for asking. I'm not even using up my weekly token allowance. Does that mean I'm even trying anymore? 🤦🏼♀️ 100
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 29/09/2026There is a scene in an anime that encapsulates this feeling perfectly. A hero is chatting to someone on a bench lamenting that he's not really feeling that he's helping much. The screen pans back and behind them is a massive giant monster lizard that they killed earlier. (Mayou is the anime) 100
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Furthering my adventures in insane AI, I have been feeling a bit unproductive this week. I'm only churning out about 4+ MRs per day, and I'm feeling really slow, as I'm about to cap out a 260+ merge request month for me and my boss. This is obviously insane. 100
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Places I worked at would not spend those resources, but would happily suffer through weird bugs and issues brought on by not tackling things holistically. In the end, did they really save time and effort? 000
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 24/09/2026In hindsight, it's amazing me how useful it has been, but how, in my life, most places I have worked at have always discounted maintenance as valuable. Pre-AI being able to make coding cheaper, doing this kind of maintenance would require large amounts of people and time. 110
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 24/09/2026It's also surfaced a bunch of bugs that I didn't know were there, as during the course of resolving other issues or switching on new tooling we find various issues and tighten up error reporting. 100
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Every repo I touch has also had tooling upgraded because of it. We've done things like automate Docker builds, prevent overwriting packages and containers, introduced E2Es on frontend applications and just generally tightened up the deploy processes. 100
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 24/09/2026For example, upgrading packages just automatically fixes security issues. Even if I were not doing maintenance, security issues would have to be fixed and zeroing in on the problem packages without sequencing through the other packages just stores up problems for later. Or it soft-locks you. 100
Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Over the last couple of months, I've been doing a giant maintenance blitz of our codebases using AI. What has struck me is just how many problems basic maintenance solves that would otherwise require work. 100

Elizabeth Kasprzyk @aphenine.bsky.social · 19/09/2026But, overall, I often deal with disbelief that it is bad.
