Off to the continent for a few days, and herself has packed some Barrys teabags in Irish Mammy tradition. There will be a Lidl round the corner, it is quite civilized these days I protest, but no arguments will be heard, the teabags go in. #speirgorm

Taking a quick look at the updated google satellite images of the Commonwealth graveyards in Gaza. My great grandmother's first financee was buried there somewhere in 1918 when it was called Mandatory Palestine.

Dunnes had mugs with "some woman for one woman" which I found a bit puzzling, but then I am a wee English lad, puzzled by everything here.

It is certainly worth re-reading the Good Friday Agreement and working out how it would continue to bind both parties and in particular the Irish state in the event of a change #speirgorm

I think across many topics maximum continuity is going to be the least scary offering - i.e. the one that gets the vote sooner and more decisively.

There probably won't be a SoS NI in the UK government, can it work with an Irish government role appointing members?

Alan @apertum.ie · 25/09/2026
This kind of thing is more productive to consider than flags.

Mapping out where my underfloor heating goes.
Picture from a thermal camera showing glowing red lines on the floor where the pipes go

ooh, and one circuit is flowing when the valve is off. That isn't great. Wonder where that one goes.

Alan @apertum.ie · 25/09/2026
I am now going to spend a week mapping out one circuit at a time to find out where the pipes actually go, then I will connect the thermostats to the correct valves.

Alan @apertum.ie · 25/09/2026
I got myself a thermal camera, which is great fun to point at all sorts of things. I now know why my underfloor heating is a bit pants. The thermostats don't appear to control the pipes in their own rooms. All good prep for a heat pump next year. #speirgorm

Or a subscription might work. There are many ways, but that kind of practical "what is actually going to happen" stuff needs to be part of the pre-vote discussion.

Alan @apertum.ie · 25/09/2026
I am fairly sure "you will still get Strictly, Bakeoff, Sewing Bee and Celebrity Traitors" is a message that will swing more votes than any flag.

Big news for makers of golden ghillie suits. Snipers don't normally inform you which building they are going to be on in advance. Probably never in history has a snipers position been revealed before the building existed.

This new attempt is much more surgical. AirBnB original concept is now basically untouched. You can let out rooms in your principle private residence, or your entire principle private residence for up to 90 days a year. Rural tiny home cottage restorations are going to be OK.
