$5,800 donation to the Sask United Party by "Anonymous, Anonymous" (which is very much illegal in our province). $465,000 loan aka donation by the Sask United Party leader's corporation (which is legal). We need reform of our ridiculously weak political donation laws.

I wrote a letter recently. Here is the completely inadequate response from our Justice Minister. I guess I am wrong, we have a robust and transparent political donation process. Silly me. Pathetic.
Letter from Justice Minister of Saskatchewan addressed to me defending lax donation laws on the basis that they are not actually lax but in fact very robust and transparent. Silly me.

Anonymous donation to the Sask Party last year. $25k from a numbered Alberta Corporation. No problem? Not under our outdated wild west political donation laws.

You may have recently seen the headlines/articles: "Alberta task force recommends halt of COVID-19 vaccines in new report" But who wrote the report. Let's dive in a bit. 🧵

Amirite?
A lame attempt at a meme playing on the fact that no one likes Proroguing of parliament but we can all agree that perogies are delicious
Because the words are similar.
Ok I’m not funny…

I once asked someone in media about this. It was after Scott Moe appeared in a federal committee re carbon tax in March.
Text exchange between me and a member of media.

Me: With Scott Moe being in the national spotlight last week due to his appearance at committee I was curious if your publication might be interested in highlighting the large amount of donations to the Sask Party that oil and gas companies are making?

Response: I think the challenge here is that this qualifies as "dog bites man" news for our readers -- they already know the Sask Party is bought and paid for by the oil industry. But I'll kick it up the chain.

From @tammyrobert.bsky.social (who I don't think is active on here). I have been one of the people in Saskatchewan beating this same drum for a few years now. We NEED to change our political donation rules in SK. It is a "boring topic" but I believe the number 1 issue in the province today.

Grewal was an MLA when he violated the COI act to the tune of nearly $1M. Deciding not to run in the next election should not confer any sort of immunity from consequences of this. Moe just looks weak here. Again.
“When was the last time that a private citizen was summoned or subpoenaed by the legislature? I don’t know that that’s ever happened,” Moe said Thursday regarding the NDP’s failed emergency motion to have Grewal appear before the legislative assembly and answer questions about the hotel controversy.

On Monday, Moe committed to a review of the act over the next year but made no specific comment regarding fines against former MLAs.

Very interesting piece from our former federal Environment Minister. Well worth a read. The playbook used by Oilsands companies is very similar to the one that was used by Tobacco companies. It is lunacy that we allow them to donate huge sums of money to our provincial politicians in SK.

Does the Premier realize that Urgent Care Clinics do not in fact "ensure that people have access to a primary health care provider?" Urgent Care Clinics provide episodic care, not primary care. It's a bit alarming to see him so misinformed on the issue.

Scott Moe logic: In July our inflation rate was low because we weren't paying Carbon Tax on home heating. Meanwhile, in October when we actually started heating our homes our inflation rate increased and we were 5th lowest because... oh, we won't talk about that.
Screenshot of a tweet from Scott Moe published in August which states: "SK continues to have the lowest inflation rate among the provinces, according to StatsCan. That’s largely due to our government’s decision to take the Trudeau-NDP carbon tax off home heating.

SK is the most affordable place in Canada to live. Let’s keep our economy strong and our future bright."

There is an infographic stating the July inflation rate for Saskatchewan was 1.6% and the national average was 2.5%Screenshot from the Government of Saskatchewan dashboard demonstrating that the provincial inflation rate in Saskatchewan was 5th highest in October 2024.

Imagine if we took the same approach with a bank robber. Caught you! Now go on and enjoy the money you’ve made but no more bank robbing for you! thestarphoenix.com/news/local-n...
Speaking after question period, Premier Scott Moe said “you don’t see Mr. Grewal here,” in response to questions about a penalty. When pressed on the message it sends if the former MLA faces no consequences, Moe responded: “Historically, has that ever occurred? Not to my knowledge.”

Moe made the point that Grewal did not run in the recent election.

I’m hearing about multiple schools with whooping cough exposures in Saskatoon. Worth getting a swab if you are experiencing symptoms www.saskhealthauthority.ca/your-health/...
What are the symptoms?

Early symptoms of whooping cough are similar to a common cold and can last for 1 to 2 weeks. Symptoms may include:

A runny nose.
A fever.
A mild cough.
Apnea in babies. This is a slight pause in breathing.
Later-stage symptoms happen after 1 or 2 weeks and can last for 10 weeks or more. Symptoms include:

Spells of coughing that are rapid and are followed by a "whoop" sound.
Vomiting during or after coughing fits.
Exhaustion after coughing fits.
Recovery from whooping cough can happen slowly. The cough becomes milder and happens less often. Coughing fits can still happen with other respiratory infections.

Today is World AIDS day. SK has the highest rate of HIV/AIDS amongst all of the provinces. In January our govt restricted needle exchange programs and stopped funding some harm reduction initiatives, which is likely to exacerbate this. Absolutely shameful. www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/artic...
A woman in Saskatoon was recently admitted to hospital with severe complications related to HIV. She was diagnosed with a rare and life-threatening viral infection, called progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy, that was eating away at her brain’s white matter.

The patient was homeless and struggling with substance use. She was also experiencing active psychosis and paralysis on the left side of her body. Despite her complex medical condition, she was discharged in the middle of the night to a shelter with no open beds. She ended up wandering the streets with no shoes and no jacket in the extreme cold.

Seriously though. How many years in a row is the govt going to blame farmers for their financial mismanagement? (While also actively working to undermine efforts to respond to climate change?) Do farmers mind repeatedly being the scapegoat? www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
Screenshot of this article linked below which includes the headline and first paragraph which reads “The Saskatchewan Party government is projecting a deficit that's more than double what it predicted in its budget, largely due to higher crop insurance payouts following a difficult farming season.”

Last year I tweeted this. The Sask Party has a playbook and once you see it you can pretty easily predict the future.
Screenshot of a tweet from one year ago that reads Please remember this for next year:

“Today we got the news that the budget predictions were wildly inaccurate and rather than a >$1B surplus we have a $250M deficit.

Next year we will vote before the release of the mid year report with its more accurate projections.”

Does anyone ever follow up on these stories? Our provincial govt ignored offers of federal money to address homelessness because of our election. Well the election is over, I assume our new Minister of Social Services (Jenson) is working day and night on this? saskatoon.ctvnews.ca/sask-ignores...

I am less concerned about an MLA's cheese shop, and more concerned about Saskatchewan's rules which allow unlimited political donations from corporate donors. But sure, let's get those COI rules updated with social media use in mind. 🙄 www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

"When asked whether he was concerned about the warming climate, Moe acknowledged he was concerned about “the amount of emission that we are putting into our atmosphere,” but..." There's always a 'but.' I think this might be the first time he has stated concern over climate change. Winning?

Today my provincial government shared an awareness message about ticks. It’s going to be -5 degrees tonight and I haven’t seen a tick for a couple of months. Their most recent tweet about COVID was 353 days ago. Sometimes I hate it here.
