I know some basic stuff like 2:1 ratios creating square like harmonics, feedback creating saw like harmonics, etc. Otherwise I'm just using oscilloscope and spectrum views to try and get close to existing snare/rim samples. Help me on my quest for the perfect synthetic snare 🤠

Getting realistic sounding snares and rims on the Digitone II using a combination of the FM and the Comb- filter. Mostly experimenting to find the right ratios for harmonics, but I was wondering, do any of you sound design nerds know a resource for FM ratio settings that mimic real instruments?

On day 72 of a caffeine break. I mistakenly thought that after 15-30 days I'd have as much energy as I usually did on caffeine days. The assumption was that I had a tolerance and was just managing dependency. That was wrong, my baseline energy is dogshit (or society is just built around caffeine)

Stalker 2 has quickly become one of my favorite games of all time. The atmosphere of bleak hopelessness, psychological horrors, and reality breaking events is perfect. There's deep economic pressures on the evolution and proliferation of *types* of music. People like to think that art is just made by pure will, with no attachments to such pragmatic concerns, but it's just not true. Pressing against those systems is important if you want more authenticity.

It's a ridiculous social construct to me though, stadium concerts are the worst listening/dancing experience overall. Crowded, impersonal, terrible sound, excessive focus on the spectacle and celebrity status of the "artist", it's boring and a lifeless exercise in status.

So much industry politic is built around this hierarchy where stadiums and festival plays are at the end of the track for artists, which means only big stadium filling music really works in the model. I want to play music in more nightclubs, warehouses, tunnels, caves, and less theaters, stadiums, concert halls, and bars. Unfortunately our entire live music infrastructure in the US is basically a vestige from the era of Rock concerts. We need creative moves from venue owners and promoters.
