Despite faults, journalism is a major truth seeking mechanism in open democratic societies. Neutering journalism in the fall out of a University standards scandal (meant to be truth seeking organisations), worsens the remaining mechanisms we have to protect free societies. 1/2

How did the UK get like this? We are 25 years post Deborah Lipstadt beating David Irving in court, when it seemed like everyone was on the same page about this stuff. Since, we have progressively crept into a very dark place. www.thejc.com/news/uk/reve...

'Clumsy error'. Hilarious misrepresentation of what happened. Trump isn't even the biggest editorial failure. People like Rusbridger, Yelland, Aaronovitch, Campbell etc are going to damage the BBC through their tribalistic ignorance of bad practice, and hand the BBC over to its enemies.

What a bleak view of the lives of others. It perhaps says more about the inner life of the writer than the wider world. When reading how anti-human movements like eugenics became normalised in the past, you wonder how people let it happen. But it can happen. www.newstatesman.com/politics/uk-...

There are no rules, the UK is now just following the law that was already in place. Following the Equality Act 2010 to enable sex-based rights for women is not going to make global fascism stronger.

The UK has avoided the surgical inventions in these vulnerable children with gender dysphoria (who often have co-morbidities that are ignored - see Cass). The evidence for gender dysphoria resolving after puberty is far better than the benefits of medical interventions.

Dogs are getting vaccinated less and rabies rates are rising, in part because 37% of Americans think vaccines will give their dogs... pawtism. www.nbcnews.com/health/healt...
Worries about vaccination rates in dogs
As rabies seems to be spreading more in wildlife, veterinarians are especially worried about vaccine hesitancy spreading among pet owners, a dangerous trend that could lead to more dogs — and their owners — becoming infected. A 2023 study published in the journal Vaccine found in a nationally representative sample of Americans that nearly 40% believed canine vaccines were unsafe and 37% believed that vaccines could lead their dogs to develop cognitive issues, such as autism.

If people think American scientists are somehow going to land in Europe, I've got news for you about the difference between millions and billions. www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Bar chart titled "Matters of Scale" comparing proposed US research budget cuts to the European Union's €500-million (US$571-million) "Choose Europe" fund. The chart shows:

* National Institutes of Health (NIH): $8 billion in cancelled grants and $18 billion in proposed cuts by 2026 (long orange bar).
* National Science Foundation (NSF): $5.1 billion in proposed cuts by 2026 (shorter orange bar).
* EU's Choose Europe fund: $571 million (very short blue bar).

The graphic highlights that the EU fund is much smaller in scale compared to the US budget cuts. Text above the chart explains the EU’s intention to attract US researchers in response to policy decisions by the convicted felon and rapist Donald Trump.
