Language homogenization is such a good concept! I see this in so many articles now, especially reviews and introductions, they have no character of their own. Job applications even worse.

Very nice work by postdoc @cbuckley.bsky.social. He used transient seedling transformation of luciferase reporters to measure #circadian rhythms in ~300 Arabidopis accessions. And it worked really well…

For me, the main tell with cover letters (eg phd applicants) and AI is that they all basically say the same thing. I once wrote to an applicant and said, “how am I meant to learn about you as a person if you send me a computer generated letter?”

As both an academic and a writer, I am repelled by the "this looks like a long document. Would you like me to summarize it for you?" that seems to appear at the top of every pdf viewer now. NO. The *entire point* of good writing (either books or journal papers) is that every sentence has a purpose.
