So Style Gen Megs is absolutely packing a tertiary Skybound-style pistol mode with all the extra hinges and bits sitting up there, right?

I weirdly have total faith in this. I joked that after Barbie and MOTU, Mattel was going to find a way to make me feel something with a Hot Wheels movie. Portentous words

I really feel like Cyberworld and Wild King are toss ups. I know Hasbro territory people are looking hungrily at these elbow joints, but the wild designs and interactivity of Cyberworld looks so fun

I can't really speak to where Skybound Transformers has wound up, but that's mostly because I felt like I was watching it squander an explosive and refreshing first twelve issues just after they ended, and I have not been particularly swayed to reconsider

Not saying either is a perfect or wholly awful or anything, but Mattel's motto being "Empowering generations through play" while Hasbro's is "We're not a toy company" or whatever really does feel some kinda way

Wild King giving us the first year of a Transformers line in ... ever, to feature no Cybertrons or Destrons in the era of forever-G1 is honestly pretty (ahem) wild.

Another Time and Place TF @anothertimetf.bsky.social · 05/07/2026

"You couldn't make Wild, Wild West today" Who cares. You couldn't make the '80s She-Ra episode "Book Burning" today, because a generation raised on children's media that treated antifascist parables as uncontroversial common ground went on to take the wrong lessons into adulthood. that's way sadder

Something I keep seeing with TF fans: "I miss auto-morphing. I miss mechanical gimmicks. I miss electronics, etc..." Me: Have you been collecting the kids' lines "No, why would I do that"

140

Another Time and Place TF @anothertimetf.bsky.social · 03/07/2026

How did the She-Ra theme not go down with Transformers and Turtles as an all-time, pop-culture osmosis '80s cartoon theme song? It is unbelievably good.

Mainline Prime Changer TF One Sentinel is/was/has always been a very good TF. Kind of the platonic ideal even.

I have gotten my first MOTU Masterverse figures in (New Etheria Hordak and Sun-Man; Dragstor, She-Ra, and Adora/Despara on the way), which is also my first experience with an adult-oriented action-figure in general, coming from a TF background. It is fun. It is also just, straight, up, a doll.

110

Another Time and Place TF @anothertimetf.bsky.social · 30/06/2026

Wild King W remains unopened because a mass of MOTU stuff I bought with it arrived simultaneously, also this is a MOTU account now I'm so sorry (It's not, but holy heck is the ratio of good media for the property, I'm finding, about a thousand times higher than TFs'. It's not fair.)

000

Another Time and Place TF @anothertimetf.bsky.social · 30/06/2026

Was reading over TF pricing conversations. And, yes, I do think Generations is a pretty bad value proposition right now, which is why I'm mainly kids' lining and high-ending.

100

Another Time and Place TF @anothertimetf.bsky.social · 29/06/2026

I don't know if I'm alone in this, but I appreciate mechanical action features in toys as an adult way *more* than as a kid. As a kid, they got in the way of imaginative play more often than not. As an adult, they're another way of engaging with it/getting some fun out of a quick pick-up.

140

Another Time and Place TF @anothertimetf.bsky.social · 27/06/2026

Look, I like Superman comics. I'm not going to see Supergirl because I didn't enjoy Gunn's Superman and I tend not to like superhero movies in general (go figure). But if the worst of my YouTube recommendations are to be believed, how are we STILL doing women-hating comics stuff in 2026?

220

Another Time and Place TF @anothertimetf.bsky.social · 27/06/2026

Wild King W wave one and a bunch of MOTU stuff arrived all at the same time after a week of massive overtime, which is nice but now I am overwhelmed

Thread spurred by falling in love with MOTU as an adult: It's so easy to look at toy-based media cynically, but I really think it's something special that it's a shame to have largely moved away from. For me, it was always less about a show or comic selling you a toy... 🧶
