I am intrigued by the replacement of the bench slats at Lincoln and Marion Parks on Capitol Hill with purple heartwood - i am told by the park service person this is the original look. But also curious about who made this decision and when, and at what cost v other needed repairs.

Fires like this are not normal. They're one of the many terrible impacts of climate change. We made this by burning fossil fuels. It will keep getting worse until we stop. By an incredible stroke of luck (from tons of human effort) we have the technology to stop burning things, all we lack is will.

As @billmckibben.bsky.social says, we urgently need to stop burning things for energy. This includes burning fossil fuels of course, but also burning trees and crops, which *increases* emissions for decades. We need to electrify energy systems using solar and wind.
