Before I left X, I remember him disputing how many people were being killed in Gaza. He's not able to accept it.

Racists continually insist that black and brown people can never be English. Then they accuse them of 'refusing to integrate'. I mean, make your bloody mind up.

Oh how much do I love Quiet Riot. In depth analysis on Marine Le Pen, a lovely story about mudlarking and a multi-national duel about rolling R s. Such a lovely eclectic mix.

"The state that fought the Yom Kippur war isn’t going to abolish itself because some trendy prat from Stoke Newington really, really wants it to." Thank you for actually managing to raise a smile on what is just the most terrible own goal for anybody who wants a settlement in Israel /Palestine.

We're going to have to do it for far more people in England than in Scotland.

So I'm a pensioner and I'm perfectly happy to go for the double lock. We are still protected, the money is going towards making sure that everybody gets proper care and beds are unblocked in the NHS and people don't have to sell their homes. I don't even live in UK .. I'm happy to support the NHS

Which lay Israel open to those charges. That, and the appalling situation in Gaza and the members of their government who say openly racist things. The motion is a mess, but the Israeli government is openly racist and also happens to be Zionist.

Jonathan needs to calm down. I don't think he was a wise choice of a Guest because he's being very hyperbolic suggesting that the Jews won't be thrown out of the country "yet."I think this motion was a mistake, but I think it's disingenuous of JF to ignore the apartheid system of the occupation

Israel is certainly an apartheid state and they would define themselves as Zionists, but it's also true that some of the original Zionists were in favour of sharing the land. It's this particular government that is so repugnant because it is both fascist and racist. Zionism is almost an add-on

Ann Harries @annharries.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Because of the structure, I don't believe that Polanski had any influence at all on the motion and they refuse to back his amendment.

Ann Harries @annharries.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I absolutely do not agree with this motion, but I also think we need to be honest about the situation. In its current form Zionism is sanctioning aparteid, so when you say that Israel is held to a different standard to other countries my answer would be.. the same standard as a apartheid S Africa

Doesn’t mean that I approve of this vote by the greens because I think it’s divisive and unhelpful, but I do think you perhaps need to look up some of the origins of Zionism and the choices that they felt they had to make to establish a state and those choices involved the expulsion of the Arabs,

Ann Harries @annharries.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Which completely contradict what you were saying. Does that mean the ordinary Jews subscribe to that ideology necessarily? But the ideology itself is racist. I'm surely an ethnic state is one way a particular religion holds a superior place. Please note the passing of the hanging laws.

Ann Harries @annharries.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I normally agree with you,James, but to pretend that Zionism didn't have racist ideas from the outset is to rewrite history. Here is Ben "The Arabs will have to go, but one needs an opportune moment for making it happen, such as a war" there are many more quotes such as these.

Excellent episode and I choked on my coffee at that last bit. I don't think we need to worry about Andy Burnham being over emotional. I think it must have hit Home that day that his dad wasn't there to see his big moment and I loved his speech.

Ann Harries @annharries.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
I think we can safely say the triple lock is gone. There will be a royal commission on the voting system so whatever that decides will happen but it will take time and Brexit is necessarily more complicated until we know what the EU would offer us. the meeting is at the end of the year.

Changing the voting system and getting rid of the triple lock are a massive change.

@newsagents.co.uk Not quite sure why you think that you can't remove VAT in the EU • Spain: Cut fuel VAT from 21% down to 10%. • Poland: Reduced fuel VAT from 23% down to 8%. • EU Rules: Allowed minimum rates down to 5%. So you might not be able to remove it entirely, but you can certainly drop it

Ann Harries @annharries.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
I think you have to give him credit for biting the bullet on PR, for being more upfront about rejoining the EU and not dismissing the possibility and obviously the triple lock. Those are big things to have even broached.

Aren't we waiting for the Caseyreport to come back? And doesn't there need to be some money to fund it which will not be available until 2030? We could certainly start the At Home element.

Presumably he needs to know what the EU will offer other than re-entry and if re-entry under what conditions. He can't offer anything to the electorate without knowing what the EU will be prepared to give. The euro might be a dealbreaker for people.

To be fair, Andy Burnham tried to get this past in 2010 when he was health secretary, then they lost the election. Let's not do that labour thing of knocking our own. Let's stick to the real enemy.
