Spring garden.
My courtyard garden.
In the foreground a fig rises.
Ranunculas in crimson, pink and yellow, and dianthus pale and prolific. Against a wall the broccoli that the cockatoos keep pruning, and a snow pea. The garden is in shade but across the road the apartment block and street teas are brightly lit by the late afternoon sun.

A tiny spotted pardalote with his mate. It’s there! Really it is.
You can barely see the small bird but it’s near the centre of the image.
What can be seen is a scrubby eucalyptus tree against a blue sky populated with fluffy white clouds.

A dingo ate my baby. I mean sausage. A dingo ate my sausage.
A dingo dog rests its head on my knee. I am also drinking a beer from a can.

Police and ambulance this morning at the crossing where I usually navigate the main road. Some poor soul a victim of distracted driving. A reminder of the daily peril of interacting with cars.

To every Australian banging on this morning on talkback radio about wanting ZERO migration, I concede. You can have it. As long as you are ok with the high chance of ZERO emergency medical care when you’re sick. ZERO aged care when you’re old. ZERO fresh food when you’re hungry.

Most days I see them from a distance when I’m riding my bike to work, and if I go walking in the hills near where I live, like I did today, I will always encounter them.

Went to an early music concert. Heard a theorbo. Beautiful sound.
A young man dressed in concert blacks holds a stringed instrument with a very long neck. The very poor photographer (me) has cut-off the top of the instrument.

Women don't have compassion fatigue. We're exhausted. Our outrage has little effect. Only men can stop this. Good men need to step up. "Sometimes we do need to march. Sometimes anger and grief is what forces governments to listen. Such public outrage can have enormous political force." #auspol #vaw

I don’t know when I started greeting insects, but this morning when I found a bogong moth fluttering in the spare room I exclaimed, “hello beautiful!”. I gently enclosed it in a cage of fingers and carried it carefully outside, where it found a hiding place between the fence and the shed.

Got a new floor. Loathed the carpet downstairs - I’m too much of a gardening grub for high traffic areas to be carpeted. I have been living like a squatter. Removalists bringing the furniture back now. One of them is a giant - he can barely fit through the door.
A tv sits on a concrete floor. The display is paused on an episode of 30 Rock. I think I chose okay with the plank. It was a bit nerve wracking!

What a brilliant example for little Aussie kids. Even if you grow up in public housing you can still aspire to stand next to a corrupt pathological narcissist, compulsive liar, sex abusing bully who’s destroying the world order, the global economy and the environment, smile and get a selfie

Horrible awful afternoon at work. I have a week off now. Would happily never return. Sometimes I just want to flip the desk over and burn things, but the training module I’d have to do afterwards puts me off the idea.

On Sundays I video call my sister and we do dinner and a quiz. She remembers things that happened in the 1950s and is quite well travelled. I’m okay with literature, mythology and lucky guesses. Tonight we got 23 out of 25 so to celebrate drinking weak white wine and boating to Bluesky.
A pen in a sheet of paper bearing
The numbers 1-25 with some random answers and ticks and crosses.
Close examination will reveal that struggled to spell the word ‘Buddhist’.
You may also notice that the answer to the question about a maiden over has been annotated as sexist.
At the top of the page is written the word Newgrange because my sister was talking about it before we started quizzing. It has nothing to do with the quiz.

They are ratbags but essentially gentle creatures. When I lay awake in the early hours and look out the window next to my bed I can see them roosting in the big trees across the road. It’s comforting to know that they’re there.

Broccoli pruning team are back.
On a shadowed wall, above a large bushy broccoli going to seed, two sulphur crested cockatoos look to the right. One of them has its crest erect because a mynah has been harassing them.

Fifty two years today since mum died. I wish there was someone around to give me a hug.
A copy of a photo of my mum stuck on a page of printer paper. A poem I wrote for her is printed at the top:
Marie
A spark
A glimpse glint of light in water
I have learned to be the daughter of this loss
Through all the tears
Just seven years I had with you
And
A lifetime since of longing.

The cover of a book, illustrated with a monolithic cliff towering over a figure on a beach. A house can be seen perched lonely on the hills sloping down to the shore.
The hand holding the book is old and unmanicured. I have never been to one of those nail salons.
In the background of the photo is a garden, the reason why I never bother with a manicure.
