I didn't, but if you think you have to refrain from stating things as they are because it might alienate bigots, then yeah, I think that course of action is cowardly and could make you a coward!

Every AI/HCI paper I review now just sounds like this.
Research [25] shows that people [26] enjoy the feeling of winning games [3,5,19]. Enjoying things can lead to longer life expectancy [2], higher economic productivity [9,22,33-40,302] and improve mental health [9]. Yet many games still include losing players [67,4]. A recent study showed that less than half of the players in a Chess [1] match win on average [42]. We have developed an LLM-driven co-creative [66], user-led [11], mixed-initiative [80] assistant for Chess [2], through which players can redefine the rules of Chess [3] using generative AI prompting such that they are the winner of Chess [4]. A study (n=3) showed that 100\% of people felt better, healthier and more self-actualised after using our tool, showing that this may be the way forward for games and human culture more broadly in the future.

the second part about "non sanctionable if expressed by non Jewish members" stuff seems inserted purely to undermine the main motion, because the main motion doesn't talk about singling out Jewish members and as enacted won't be doing so

also fascinated by those saying "we agree with the motion but it's politically unwise". you could say this about any position that goes against hegemonic oppressive ideology, and it's still cowardly in those contexts too

I am absolutely fascinated by people trying to thread the needle of saying "it's wrong to say zionism is racism" while avoiding open endorsement of the state of Israel as it exists

Empire also very good for this kind of vibe. Karl Franz campaign is a classic for a reason. I guess dwarfs also fit? You do most of the work with the armies not the lords

Like you say it's not really the design principle but the human factions probably fit closest. Cathay has the Lord Magistrate which is probably my favourite lord type, they're entirely about supporting the army

"Umberto Eco, who owned 50,000 strategy games had this to say about Steam libraries:

It is foolish to think that you have to play all the strategy games you buy, as it is foolish to criticize those who buy more strategy games than they will ever be able to play. It would be like saying that you should use all the cutlery or glasses or screwdrivers or drill bits you bought before buying new ones. There are things in life that we need to always have plenty of supplies, even if we will only use a small portion. If, for example, we consider strategy games as medicine, we understand that it is good to have many at home rather than a few; when you want to feel better, then you go to the 'medicine closet' and choose a strategy game. Not a random one, but the right strategy game for that moment. THat's why you should always have a nutrition choice! Those who buy only one strategy game, read only that one and then get rid of it. They simply apply the consumer mentality to strategy games, that is, they consider them a consumer product, a good. Those who love strategy games know that a strategy game is anything but a commodity."

I read "we're going to set up a Players Non-Profit that can call a General Assembly at any time and owns 5% of the development company" and I come over all tired and exhausted all of a sudden, especially when the rest of it what it involves is stuff like "access to dev diaries and a discord channel"

Having a great time with the Lords of the End Times update for Total War Warhammer. This stupid rodent megalomaniac is my favourite. Yeah Thanquol, that's right! Blow up the moon!
A rat wizard stands atop a monstrous rat ogre with cybernetic arms, firing green lighting everywhere. "BEHOLD GREY SEER THANQUOL!" he saysA gigantic rickety claw-cannon points at a sickly-looking green moon. "Gaze-gawk upon the warp-moon, you dismal rat-filth, for it leers at its demise!" says Thanquol, off-screen.Thanquol, the rat wizard, stands in front of the machinery, ranting with green lightning arcing from his horns. "The very Council will grovel before MY genius! For I was the one to see their weapon-engine finished atop a corpse-mound of rivals and pawns!" he raves.Another view of the huge cannon-engine pointing skywards. Thanquol, off-screen, says: "Come-come, fool-meat! Flock closer together - make an easier target the HAIL OF FIERY DOOM!"

I saw this screenshot going around, found this detail charming, looked more into the game (I've never played a Silent Hill) & decided to buy it. Btw these are the "unimportant" background assets AI idiots think AI should be used for
Screenshot of a Twitter post by Val / @shegoingtogloat - it's a Silent Hill screenshot showing a close up of a cork board. On it, a paper says "Welcome to Shorefront Family Clinic" in a classic wiggly 3D font style. The tweet text is: Is this a Silent Hill asset made using PowerPoint lol"

It's really refreshing seeing shitey normal working class life depicted like this in a game, and a Silent Hill game no less. Pebble-dashed council flats, three-bar fires, Post Office counters, concrete shopping precincts. This must be how posh people felt playing Everybody's Gone to the Rapture.
The inside of a council flat.A brutalist concrete shopping precinct.A block of council flats.A Post Office (well, 'Post Service') counter.

but when inside there are enemies who will charge at you. if you lure one of them into the airlock and change into the spacesuit, it begins the airlock cycle and they did a special animation for the enemy comically elongating and getting sucked out into space. the entire game is full of this stuff

there's a bit in LBA2 where you go to the moon and do comical low-gravity bounding around in a spacesuit that you have to change out of at airlocks to enter the moonbase buildings. this is already delightful, the game really plays around with different movement sets

2 games that played in '96/97 - The Settlers 2, which tickled a part of my brain that loved making wee towns and chains of logistics, and Little Big Adventure 2, which showed me that games could be constantly inventive and creative and be a kind of playful shared joke between developer and player
