The 10 of the 14 items most contributing to inflation were from non-discretionary spending, such as fuel, rent, electricity, council rates. @grogsgamut.bsky.social argues that an increase in rates is not going to curb this spend so will cause undue stress on communities. Let's hope RBA is listening.

It's harder to get funding for basic research projects than ever before in Australia. The @arc_gov_au Discovery Projects scheme now has the lowest “success rate” ever: 16.3%. Only 1 in 6 grants are funded. Why? The funding available has plummeted. Please help, Jason Clare MP❗️

(One tip I found online and always tell my students: play Strauss' "Thus Spake Zarathustra" ie the music from 2001: A Space Odyssey while you read the introduction out loud. If it sounds right, you need to tone the writing down.)
