These are males (the red cheeks, or mustaches as some say), red-shafted variety of flicker. Common in southern Oregon. They're not so much 'bang-on-trees' type woodpeckers, they spend a lot of time on the ground, stirring up dirt, pecking around for ants and other bugs.. I think they're beautiful.

Thank you.🥰 She was British w/ Swedish roots, actually was descended from some scandalous Swedish king, or so her stories went.😉 QofS is definitely a favorite, I hope you find room. They are quite tall! My rose garden is full, and still just added two more. (not QofS) For color balance, of course. 😇

💗💗 This rose is in honor of a dear friend no longer living, but every other pale pink rose in the garden is thanks to Audrey! She really got me into the pinks. Hope she's doing well. Hope you are, too! I recommend this one! Elegant, disease-resistant, no black spot even when others are struggling.

Just home from a 12-day road trip. Saw a good portion of the US West... People were lovely pretty much everywhere we went. The wedding in Santa Fe, fabulous. The vastness of our country, somewhat overwhelming. Beautiful. Worth taking care of. Happy to have been able to go! Happy to be safely home. ❤️
