Just home from a 12-day road trip. Saw a good portion of the US West... People were lovely pretty much everywhere we went. The wedding in Santa Fe, fabulous. The vastness of our country, somewhat overwhelming. Beautiful. Worth taking care of. Happy to have been able to go! Happy to be safely home. ❤️

Where geology is visible. Long ago, when this was ancient seabed, lava seams broke through earth eventually becoming dark rock, on left, and in horizontal line on right. The lava seams, part of volcanic cones that became mountains. Animal homes in the heavy clay, visible, too. #BlueSkyArtShow #Earth

A silver lining of drought? When lake levels fell, the geology of this region became more visible. The photo shows a thick mound/line of dark shiny rock going down to water's edge. That is lava rock. There is also a thinner line of the same emerging through center right. The rest is clay and small rocks scattered all around. Above the seam on right, a few holes in darker, heavier clay where ground squirrels have made their home. They know what they're doing, they chose the heaviest clay sitting above volcanic rock, the sturdiest spot for their homes...

#TheCampfire Went to the Oregon Country Fair this summer ~ first time in a long while. Held on 500 acres of protected land, it's a gathering like no other. A fair adrift in an eccentric Avalon or something, a place of hope, optimism, acceptance, where artists and dreamers rule, and love always wins.

It all takes place in the forest ~ there are signs of the OG hippie vibe everywhere. I first went almost 40 years ago, my oldest baby in my arms. My second child went with me a few times, while my third is not cut out for this kind of - or any kind of - crowd. : )
Many years later my oldest worked here, my best friend sings here, other friends have booths, and somehow, even long lost friends I haven't seen in years seem to magically show up, when coming to this land.

The art and craft offerings are always so good, with each craft booth looking like it belongs in a medieval setting. It's quite theatrical an event, with 17 stages for music - excellent, and excellent variety!
Also drum circles, circus type shows, magicians... and along the paths there are more creative ones playing their fiddle, or juggling, or what have you.
Drum circles are my favorite, how that rhythm vibrates your being right to the very core.

Each day of the fair (3 days only each July), the parades have a theme. Many stay and camp for the weekend, but this year, we went for Friday only, when the fair is all fresh.
The Queen of Lime parade happens on Friday - this year, the leader carried a portrait of Queen Elizabeth, everyone dressed in lime-greens and white. Somewhat ironic, there... Loud pronouncements were made, kazoos were blown, dancing and music of course. Silliness a la Monty Python, in that parade anyway, everywhere.
Meanwhile, craft booths made bank.

Kindness reigns at this fair, stewardship of the land is front and center, with blessings and actions of hope and healing for the planet, and for all people everywhere, carrying into the year. It's wild how long the energy of this place can stay with you... if you're open. As you will hear throughout your time at this place, accompanied by a smile and true generosity of heart (which somehow avoids any cheesiness of such a trite phrase...) "Happy Fair!"
