btw I think your intuition was correct on this. It seems like Deepseek's margins are as high as 70-80%, and stands to reason that western labs are also in that range, if not higher x.com/jingyanghk/s...

And we just updated our story with new reporting that DeepSeek's gross margin from selling v4 API access is...70% to 80% (!)

capacity buyout is mostly for training demand, right? amin vahdat had a great quote about how frontier labs no longer care about "five nines of reliability" for compute because it's mostly put towards training, where throughput matters and downtime not-so-much youtu.be/VeTqsCpcDgg?...

agreed and the best indicator is that open source models have stayed the same-ish size over the past year for closed source, it's very likely Gemini 3 Flash is 1.2T based on the Apple license. that's not much bigger than Kimi K2

inference gross margins have been stuck ~50% for quite some time we know Anthropic's margins were in that range December 2023

amazon has an incredible uno-reverse-card in the works here
Amazon’s “Buy For Me” feature allows users to purchase products from third-party websites without leaving Amazon’s app or site. (Amazon also has a “Shop Direct” button that links out to brands’ third-party websites for customers to complete a purchase.) When products appear on Amazon through “Buy for Me,” they are shown alongside standard Amazon search results but are clearly labeled as coming from “other brands,” with a prominent button that says “Buy for Me.”

“Buy For Me” uses “agentic AI capabilities” to provide third-party websites with shoppers’ encrypted payment and shipping information, according to Amazon. Still, several merchants said that, to shoppers accustomed to scrolling Amazon’s marketplace, the listings can resemble a typical Amazon product page, potentially giving the impression that a brand is selling directly on Amazon, even if the transaction ultimately happens elsewhere.

I am going to be honest, this guy needs to be putting some of this into therapy instead of into writing. I find most of his stuff thought-terminating existential dread instead of actually working on strategy and structure to make positive change.

@Grok replies: Anne Hathaway isn't Jewish; she was raised Catholic but left the church. She married Adam Shulman (who is Jewish) in 2012 and celebrates Jewish holidays with their kids. SHe's played Jewish roles, like in "Armageddon Time."

OpenAI Is Getting More Efficient at Running Its AI, Internal Financials Show
As OpenAI discusses raising an unprecedented investment round of up to $100 billion, it can crow about some key improvements to how it runs its business. While its total computing costs are still high...

Huh, interesting but I doubt deepseek's unit economics look similar to OpenAI or Anthropic's. The Information reported OAI's gross margins were about ~68% in October (profit margins calculated w.r.t. inference costs, not training)

university is the time for research and theory tbh in my experience the research/implementation are ideally done in tandem but it takes a bit of time to develop a muscle tor the former anyway, graduation is sort of an arbitrary deadline (unless you’re getting course credits for this or something?)

I also am not sure if Cursor's AWS bill is driven by Bedrock. It could be AWS Trainium (for training and inference) It does feel like a natural end state for Cursor would be to become a first party model provider, and they've been piloting the stealth model "Cheetah" since early October
