I've been looking for a job since 2022 when I left NoA (through circumstances not entirely under my control) and have had very few interviews. To top it all off, I'm fleeing a domestic violence situation and have zero safety net.

I'm in no state to do art commissions, otherwise I'd offer. I'm way out of practice and with my energy so wrecked it would take far too long than is reasonable. I don't know what to do. I just need an income so I can get back on my feet, but I can't find anything...

I really hope I can land a job soon. Countless applications for years, and I can count the interviews I've had on a single hand. No offers. Might have to start selling off my belongings just so I can afford rent and food...if I can even afford the Lyft fees, since I can't drive yet.

My current plan is to post my projects in my shop as pay-what-you-want, with members having early access by a week. The initial chapter of all projects, however, will be an exception and will be shared with everyone immediately.

Firebrand is still my main priority, but given the nature of kinetic novels, it is taking a while and I'm not always able to work on it for extended periods. Other projects I have in the works are purely written or page-by-page.

Sometimes progress is getting a bunch of new art assets made. Sometimes progress is finding out that your engine hates your formatting so you have rename all of your placeholder assets both in folder *and* in your code 🥲

Work on Firebrand's re-do is going slowly but surely! I can only give it a couple hours a day at best, since I'm busy juggling my health and other irl priorities, but it's coming together bit by bit. I don't have anything to show yet, but I hope to soon!

I would kill or die for Larry

A small operation in Oregon that hunts truffles with a trained dog has added an unpaid trainee. A cat named Larry accompanies the handler and the truffle dog into the woods every outing, works a patch of ground a little apart from them, and digs with tremendous confidence in places where there is nothing.
The handler says Larry has never found a truffle and shows no sign of understanding the assignment. He does not use scent the way the dog does and he does not respond when the dog makes a find.
He simply digs his own holes nearby and then inspects them. "He thinks he's on the team," the handler said. "He is emphatically not on the team."

I'm working with a finite amount of money, and I hate asking for donations, but I'll try to have something set up because anything helps. I think my cashapp is working, my PayPal *should* be working by now, so that means ko-fi should work now too (albeit no shop for a while).

I still haven't given up on Firebrand, at least. I'm looking into finding some way to make that still happen, although it will be changing formats. Regular art... I'm not sure yet. But I'll get there soon, I hope.

Now, I'm homeless, jobless, stressed to my limits, and largely alone. I don't know how I'll be getting out of this. Jobs are hard to find. Most of my art tools are in storage, and even if I did commissions on my tablet, the quality isn't as good as I'd like for that since I'm out of practice.

I have no other family or friends in this whole region of the country. They *were* my friends, I *thought* I could trust them. I've lived with them twice before, and things were largely fine both times. Something changed.

I ripped off the band-aid shortly after I left...but their presence lingers everywhere. They're active in my friend group server, so I'm reluctant to share anything there; I dont want to start drama. They're also active in a local group server I would have otherwise used to find resources.

With most of my stuff in storage, the movers (bless them) gave me a ride to help me find a place to stay. I ended up in a decent-enough hotel for a bit, long enough to plan my next move. I won't reveal where I went from there for safety reasons. I probably won't feel safe for a long while.

I went out for "errands" and got a new phone line and a bank account; something to work with. I planned on holding out for longer but I hit a breaking point. I scheduled movers, reserved a storage unit, and I left the next day without fully explaining.

The list goes on and on. I couldn't take it anymore. I was losing my mind. I'm pretty sure at one point I basically did. Once I heard I was getting an inheritance, I started meticulously planning a way out. It felt heartless to not mourn, but I needed to focus on my safety first.

My PTSD was weaponized. I was told to go to therapy because I was "dragging everyone into my trauma". I'm not going to claim I was perfect, but it came across as them wanting me to mask for their comfort, rather than actually heal. At one point my spirituality was used to low-key accuse me of theft.

They demanded permission for me to use their toilet paper. If I went for too long, it didn't matter why; I'd get chastised. Eventually: "YOU JUST WENT SHOPPING" I had to explain that food stamps only cover food. I had no money, no bank account, and I was in debt. I used washcloths for a while.

(He used to share meals with me, but one day he stopped. After an incident involving the kitchen faucet being run too high, he turned a blind eye to my my situation, and I could hear him open my pantry and yell "She *has* food!", among other things. I only really had beans at the time.)

Eventually we all (I wasn't their only housemate) were told to conserve water and electricity since the bill was high. I was asked about my desktop and told that my power supply was too big. They stopped sharing food, so I largely relied on food banks and food stamps because jobs were hard to find.

If there was any kind of disagreement or problem, I wasn't allowed to explain or defend myself. If I did, they'd either shut me down, ignore it, or change tactics. If I was confronted for something, it was either passive-aggressive, full-aggressive, or just straight talking down to, rarely otherwise

When I moved in, he tried to control my food. She helped me stop him, but before long she would stop caring about how he treated me, and even contributed to the pain. More and more things would start to add up; it was death by a thousand cuts.

It was especially difficult, given the perpetrators (yes, there were two of them) rescued me from my previous abuser. Plus, we don't often hear about DV from people who aren't intimate partners, so I was worried it wouldn't "count". But it does. It very much does.

A few days ago, I escaped a DV situation. I doubted that it counted as DV, I kept questioning if it was "enough", but after having later explained it to someone else, they pointed out it was and all the ways that proved it.

Apologies for the long radio silence. I was living in a bad situation and some things kinda fell by the wayside. tl:dr; I'm currently homeless and seeking both shelter and work. Hopefully Cashapp works for donations and comm payments; PayPal and Stripe are being fussy atm.

I have one exception to this, and that's Firebrand. There are themes in that story that are *very* near and dear to my heart, and despite my artistic skill not being where I want it to be yet, I'm pursuing it no matter what. Worst case scenario it goes on hiatus for a little while.

Then, I let it sit, and move on to the next idea, depending on how I feel. If the "pilot" is successful - either I really enjoyed working on it and/or people really like it and want more - then I pursue the rest of the idea. If not, then I at least have a proof of concept.

For example: when I do finally have the energy to get back to Land of Quartz, I will only do the first chapter or two. Otherwise, I would have written an in-media-res chapter that works standalone and posted that. (Which I probably should have done, lol)

Many of my personal projects that I do share operate off of a self-imposed "pilot rule". I have a ton of ideas for various projects, but I can't feasibly do every single one. So, instead, I do a "pilot" or a first chapter or two and see how I feel after that. This way, I don't get overwhelmed.

I haven't been making art lately due to a variety of reasons, including irl stress and health. I also have some for personal projects that aren't ready for release yet, and others that are personal and not shared on this account. I'm hoping to have some cool stuff to share soon!
