Doctors are asked to make moral decisions when it comes to abortions in ban states like Texas and if they make the wrong judgment call, they could end up in jail for 99 years. Their medical judgment means basically bupkis.

And the reason that happened is because local repro rights and repro justice groups went and talked to people in their communities and spoke their language. Meanwhile it took Joe Biden like three years to say the word Abortion on TV. I wrote about it: rewirenewsgroup.com/2025/07/30/f...
Screenshot of an article I wrote:

“We had this comprehensive plan to develop relationships, deepen relationships, and really continue educating people about what reproductive justice means,” Gurule said.
That’s the key here. You can’t rely on the law to protect reproductive freedom if the underlying culture still sees certain people as undeserving of autonomy, dignity, and care. We tried that with Roe, and it didn’t work. Reproductive justice offers a way to change the culture of abortion hostility, and it starts with talking to people and explaining what reproductive justice is.
“Colorado’s never had fetal viability,” Laura Chapin, the media communications director of reproductive rights advocacy group Cobalt, explained to me in an interview.
Chapin was part of the effort to pass Colorado’s Reproductive Health Equity Act (RHEA). The law, enacted in 2022, gives Coloradans the fundamental right to choose or refuse contraception, to continue a pregnancy and give birth, or to have an abortion. And it explicitly says “a fertilized egg, embryo, or fetus” has no independent rights.
In 2024, Colorado voters passed Amendment 79, enshrining these protections into the state constitution.
Dusti Gurule, head of the Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights (COLOR), also helped lead the effort to pass RHEA and Amendment 79. When I asked her if there was ever a question that fetal viability would limit abortion rights in Colorado, she said no.
“We never allowed that conversation to happen,” Gurule said. “We said, ‘This is not what this is about.’ So people wanted to have that conversation and we’d be like, ‘Sorry. Not up for debate.’”

Nope. Abortion rights are in danger because we don't have many leaders willing to stand up and say it's a social good. Instead they talk about "women's repro healthcare." Abortion is so popular that Colorado's repro health amendment with no fetal viability ban passed in Lauren Boebert's district.

Abortion stigma matters—not just so people who get abortions aren’t made to feel like shit, but because it actually can affect quality of care, per this study. It’s not just a language choice.

Exactly! And why are we catering to the lowest common denominator? This is a problem of leadership. Dems need to call dumb shit out but instead of doing that we have them joining the dumb train and talking about biological men in sports or some bullshit. No one wants to lead. They want to hedge.

If a public figure can’t counter a ridiculous claim like wanting to force abortions on women who don’t want one, then perhaps they should find another job. Honestly. We’re never going to get free by ceding arguments to conservatives.

Have you polled “most people”? Because most people in my mentions are saying they’re pro-abortion, as in favor of or supportive of abortion. I’m pro-choice & pro-abortion. I support choice & I support abortion. The reason that makes you feel squiggy is that shame&abortion go hand in hand for you.

why is it so important to you that you not be perceived as pro-abortion? i'm honestly asking. because i see you copy-pasting this response to multiple people and i'm just wondering why you're insisting on making this distinction in the face of people telling you they actually are pro-abortion.

People who have abortions deserve to define their own experiences. When we come in with "well, nobody would have CHOSEN this," we're pre-loading that conversation (which we might be having, now, before any of us have had or needed abortions, who's watching?) with stigma. We can simply: not.

Abortion stigma does so much more harm than y'all know. I see it every day in my work. "Nobody wants this, nobody would choose this" type rhetoric is so, so damaging. You're free to think it, but keep it to yourself, I beg you. Because somebody who doesn't need to hear it from you absolutely will.

i don't need to read again. you said nobody is pro-abortion. i am pro-abortion. why? because it's health care. and i'm pro health care. just like i'm pro-chemo, i'm pro-abortion. reducing stigma around abortion care is important and insisting nobody is pro-abortion feeds into harmful narratives.
