Very sad to hear that Margaret Hamilton has passed away. Here's a short thread about her role in the Apollo mission, and her lesser-known work on the simulations that led to the discovery of Chaos Theory. 🧪 👩‍🔬 ⚛️

As I've said before, corporate actors like OpenAI are regularly taking down open research and publishing infrastructures – journals, books, archives, repositories – with complete impunity. Their bots don't even respect robots.txt requests.

Interesting coincidence that the Nobel to Halzen for “the discovery of high-energy neutrinos of astrophysical origin” comes on the same day as this milestone that there are things beyond our own galaxy 103 years ago.

Can’t help but wonder if there’s a unifying gender factor at play – i.e. men are so used to offloading tasks onto their wives/girlfriends/etc that it’s trained them to offload tasks to AI without a second thought

I can suggest an equation that has the potential to impact the future:
1พ ...
E = mc2 + Al
This equation combines Einstein's famous equation E=mc',
, which relates energy (E) to
mass (m) and the speed of light (c), with the addition of Al (Artificial Intelligence). By including Al in the equation, it symbolizes the increasing role of artificial intelligence in shaping and transforming our future. This equation highlights the potential for Al to unlock new forms of energy, enhance scientific discoveries, and revolutionize various fields such as healthcare, transportation, and technology.

So often sites/apps like this are so vague about what the perms they require are going to be used for that I’ve started NOPING right tf out if I can’t find an answer in a few mins. And I’m reasonably tech savvy!

it really needs to be more openly discussed that all the people advocating for “we should be fine with losing basic skills if we get more systems thinking” are men, meaning socialized to expect to be able to offload basic tasks of daily living onto a wife as part of their compensation for existing

This makes me hopeful. This number is aspirational but nowhere near out of reach: a working professional could realistically cash out their 401k and buy off a public official. Owning a senator is more attainable for most Americans than home ownership.
