“Italians mad at food” is an obsolete meme. These days, Italians are mostly mad at foreigners romanticizing Italy in a pizza-pasta-mandolino-mamma-mia-way.The latest entry is Dove Cameron’s “When in Rome.” See it for yourself angelicafrey.substack.com/p/dove-camer...

I saw that people get way too comfortable around talking about "Italian features," in the most phenotype-specific way. You might think you're expressing pride in your heritage, but you actually sound like a 1938 nostalgic. Here I explain why angelicafrey.substack.com/p/what-does-...

I love Sailor Moon so I've been rewatching the 1990s classic in the past few months. I noticed that the dynamics of the (deliciously flamboyant) villains remind me of what you see in workplace comedies or satires on corporate hell, so I wrote about it. angelicafrey.substack.com/p/sailor-moo...

I’ve been freelancing long enough to have cycled through multiple writers’ groups over the years. I keep seeing freelance business coaches hijacking advice threads to pitch themselves whenever someone posts about a problem or asks for help. I am NOT anti-coaching. I used coaches myself.

What I learned this year: constantly reacting to “the discourse” was hollowing out my writing. Stepping back from hot takes gave me space to think, notice, and actually enjoy my work again. In 2025 I opted out of the hot-take economy.
