So, I have made no secret of how I married into an evangelical family. I have been in this family for 20 years now. And I have tried to have conversations and even arguments with members of the family who thought that pizzagate was real, that Hillary Clinton drank the blood of children, that Obama was the Anti-Christ and then Kamala was (maybe they job share?) and I spelled it out pretty succinctly what would happen THIS TIME AROUND to US, not even pulling in all the people that Dominionist Christians do not care about which is pretty much everyone but them and their immediate family and they still would not vote to save democracy. So last week in my rage I said I can't spend the holidays with your family. I cannot sit across the table from them, and not talk about my heart being BROKEN by what more than half of the electorate has decided, and have your parents literally roll their eyes at me. And today, Ben said he would stay home too even though I gave him leave to go to his parents' for thanksgiving. He did not tell me how that conversation went. But let me tell you that I did not drag Ben to the left. He said his family was very centrist growing up, in a non-denominational church that focused on good works and volunteering, and his parents were absolutely brainwashed by Fox News and Facebook bullshit. So this is why anyone who says "why can't we just set aside politics for a day has no place in my universe any more. Other people have said it for the last 10 years. A difference of opinion is Oat milk vs cows milk. Or Hydrox vs Oreos. Or even, Red Sox vs Yankees. It is not Fascism vs Democracy.
