It's already some years from this piece on the "transnational consensus" in the historiography of fascism and Nazism. As already suggested there, this paradigm has turned "global". Clearly, global history already shapes the field. My own book is forthcoming!

Back in 2018 I wrote this article mapping the international historiography on war veterans. Since then, the field has kept growing, particularly in the areas of postcolonial veterans and war-related disability. I no longer work on these topics, but I am pleased to see historical knowledge advance!

It seems to me that the story arc on AI and Higher Education these days is going to be like that of online teaching and Higher Education during the 2020 pandemic days. First, misplaced managerial hype and pressure to “embrace” it, and then, return to the time-tested human ways.

@angelalcalde.bsky.social analyses the interwar authoritarian parties as a genuinely international movement, comparing Germany, Austria and Spain. He argues that we understand fascism better if we see the wider forces driving it, not just the national ones. doi.org/10.1515/9783111705446-021

The Death of Democratic Republics in the 1930s: Germany, Austria, Spain
Abstract: This chapter examines how Republics died in the interwar period, focusing on the cases of the Weimar Republic, the Austrian Republic, and the Spanish Second Republic. First, the chapter introduces various traditional interpretations of the de- mise of liberal democracies and rise of authoritarianism in interwar Europe. Then, the chapter provides a review of historical developments in Italy, Germany, Austria and Spain, noting the factors that most commonly allow historians to explain the end of democracies in the 1920s and 1930s. In the last part of the chapter, a new interpre- tive model is proposed, which highlights transnational processes, namely the influ- ence and direct intervention of Italian fascists in Europe, as the key to understand
why various interwar democratic Republics fell.
