While Starship prepares for flight 14 — hopefully its first successful orbital flight — here's Opus 5.5 rendering a Mars lander in Blender flying the powered descent guidance trajectories from JPL's classic paper: arc.aiaa.org/doi/abs/10.2...

This is the best thing I have seen since this one: m.youtube.com/watch?v=dKFC... But yours is more impressive if I presume it’s just steered way less than what this other video has done. Wild.

Now I agree that it can teeter on AI psychosis, but I think one shouldn’t dismiss that this guy might have embraced the exponential. Maybe a little too hard, but it was embraced ;)

I was told to just hit “accept all” instead of using tab complete. More than happy to do that after a long day, but seeing (what at the time felt like) an insane project visualising space debris with real data etc. materialise while getting drunk on beer in 90 mins… it was jarring to say the least.

I’m on his side on this one; I’ve likely been irresponsible with my time, but I’ve been in LLM-land for a while now. I was dismissive BECAUSE of 18-24 months of long-term but stressful use. Then I found myself in a Cursor hackathon last December and suddenly everything was just.. different.

Hahahhaha. I prefer this to pretending capabilities aren’t wild atm or, worse, not even knowing where capabilities are. No? Maybe things are better stateside where people are cognizant and also just closer to the action.

I‘ve felt similarly obliged to keep up with AI, but suspect most academics I work with are unaware of recent progress or refusing to talk about it openly. Many unis are sleepwalking, but if you’re using newer models then you’d be as grim as this IISc prof. youtube.com/watch?v=N2a1...

I once Claudeposted on my blog about my Obsidian notes; it kinda blew up so I annotated it out of shame. Someone called me out for ruining the essay; they said my comments took away from the original post and that they regretted sharing it with friends. There is a market for slop merchants.

My suspicion (from a call for the with Michael Cohen at the “Build with Opus 4.7” hackathon this weekend) is that this is what is “solved“ by Managed Agents.

The gravity would help with your issues with vomit; but I think it’s better to just have vomit floating in zero gravity. Makes it easier to bag it up :-)

A piece I wrote related to crewed space flight abkut an idea worth bringing back: worksinprogress.co/issue/inflat... I personally felt Lunar Gateway wasn’t the greatest idea.

A static site, where posts are written in markdown, deployed via GitHub is quite a good way to write that might be worth considering. I like the tighter integration of editing+publishing with Obsidian and its plugins; a much more superior writing experience, especially: github.com/maximevailla...

Mobile link insertion is fiddly on iPhone. Selecting text to fit inside the brackets is imprecise with touch. After text is highlighted, could tapping 🔗 open a small form with separate fields for link text and URL?

it’s definitely hard; I hadn't even really tried fiction writing before Inkhaven. Surprising what a silly, gamified deadline can make a person do to not be kicked out of a program. An Inkhaven-style daily deadline of 500-word short story blogging might be a nice idea in this AI age.

1 of my 2 Inkhaven goals was to de-hotify any take (another was to avoid advice-posting); switching to writing dialogue proved helpful. This would often turn a take into a fiction piece or satire; both felt effective at dissipating heat from a potentially hot take.
