As the saying goes: red sky at night, September nor’easter on the way, alright.
This is my front yard. There’s a tree and a stump and the grass needs to be cut but you probably couldn’t tell from this. The sky looks cool as hell. Storm’s a-comin’.

PCA: all the red this year on his Savant page really jumps out when you look year by year. He was always elite in the field and on the basepaths but he put it all together at the plate this year, at age 24. Dominant and impressive even beyond being the 7th 40/40 guy ever.
Pete Crow-Armstrong's Savant comparison. 2024 vs 2025 vs 2026. He was always an elite runner and fielder but his batting numbers took an enormous leap this season. He cut down on swinging at pitches outside the zone, his walks skyrocketed, and he's crushing the ball like never before. Wildly impressive. Talk about a guy putting it all together. His 40/40 is impressive but all that red is just monstrous. This is 'best player in the league type' stuff and he's doing it all at age 24. Even with Shohei around, this won't be his only MVP award.

Pablo Torre investigates the LA Clippers for salary cap circumvention……… Crit goes to a soccer game (a sport he doesn’t particularly care for… a team he had never even heard of before the podcast… 20 minutes from his new house… why is he talking in third person…)RIFC in the seats at Centreville Bank Stadium in Pawtucket, Rhode Island (one of their Daktronics boards can be seen in the background)It cost $18 total for my wife and I to sit in the front row behind the goal. Thank you to the person who sold their tickets cheap on stubhub. RIFC shot at this goal in the second half and scored twice right in front of us. It was electric. There were fireworks after the game. It was Taylor Swift night. Her music is… fine. But the songs they chose for the fireworks were deep cuts I guess? Not great. Whatever. Lots of kids and moms were pumped so I was happy for them. I know it wasn’t for me and that’s ok. I am not complaining. I enjoyed the fireworks anyway. I would’ve liked to hear “22” that’s all I’m saying. Everyone just loooooves fireworks pics so I know you’re loving this.

Well now we know Phoebe Bridgers was the famous singer-songwriter hinted at in the GQ Mike Kinsella profile back in March. He plays guitar on the song “Bobby” www.gq.com/story/americ...
All this week, Mike Kinsella has been losing sleep over a guitar solo.
On a Thursday afternoon in mid-January, Mike is seven chicken wings and two tall gin-and-sodas into lunch at Lottie's, a favorite sports pub in Chicago, where trash collectors in neon vests belly up to the bar beside servers from far more ostentatious restaurants. Early this week, a singer-songwriter more famous than Mike will likely ever be sent him a song that was essentially finished. There was already a guitar solo on the track, right after she screamed her way out of the second verse, but she told Mike she wanted him to replace it with something more-her words-"Midwest emo." Could he do it?Mike listened and admitted that the existing solo, however roughshod and muddy it was, already seemed pretty Midwest emo, a term that's been his albatross for nearly three decades and makes him grimace like the name of an ex he'd rather forget. ('I could write the best emo album ever," he says with a grin.) He dispatched another idea: a galloping nylon-string-guitar run that he then overrode with a gargantuan electric surge.
She was polite but insistent-that was cool, man, but could he maybe just play something serpentine and pretty on his Telecaster, like he did when he was in his 20s?
He had 50 other ideas. He sent five. And yet, still, she wanted the basic Mike Kinsella sound, that Midwest emo thing he helped invent.
"It's like she wants me to do a voiceover for a story that's already written," Mike tells me, reaching for one more wing before stuffing the rest in a to-go box. "I'm not insulted-but do you want the thing Al would write if you said, 'Write Midwest emo guitar'? Or are you paying me for how I'm hearing your song?"

Red Sox weren’t tired after that long back and forth game of the year last night, following it up with an easy 13-1 win. All nine starters had at least one hit and our big beautiful boy Tolle had his velocity up and dominated: 6 innings, 2 hits, 14 Ks, 24 whiffs.
Payton Tolle’s pitch velocity chart from tonight’s game showing that all five of his pitchers were thrown a bit harder than his yearly average. Pitching on an extra day of rest, he was dominant tonight.Payton Tolle pitch chart: all whiffs shown (swinging strikes, foul tips)

The White Sox were up 4-0, 5-2, 7-5, 9-7, 10-9, and 11-10. Final: Red Sox win 12-11 in 13 innings. Never in doubt.
Today 8:35 PM [I sent this text]
It's 5-2 White Sox. Earlier in the year I'd be like "it's over, I hate everything, we should do a January 6 at Fenway" and yeah we'd still watch it but I'd grumble the whole time. Now I'm like "it's only the 4th inning and we have CALEB DURBIN and ANDRUW MONASTERIO, it's fine!"

I googled: "if assholes could fly this place would be busier than ohare" because I forgot which Alkaline Trio song the lyric was from and wanted to put it on.

AI Google results: You are quoting the legendary Alkaline Trio lyric from their track "You're Dead," off the 2001 album From Here to Infirmary. It is a classic line that perfectly captures some intense angst and frustration!
