Yep, limiting payroll wherever they can. Some of these people in business operations may literally have nothing to do until the middle of the summer of 2027… Or later.

So thanks to the GOP I’ve been repeatedly exposed to Maddie Paxton wax philosophical about her father, who she claims some people refer to as General Paxton. Is this some advanced numbskullery on Maddie’s part or do you think Paxton required his daughter to refer to him as “General”?

Hassert and Bakker in the same weekend? To coin a phrase from the Astros marketing department, it's time to get greedy.

PCU was seminal for me and my college friends. Beyond the many quotable lines, the Caine Hackman theory is something I could have actually written a thesis on.

I’m sick and I want to watch PCU. It of course isn’t on streaming (music rights or some such). Apparently, I can buy the DVD, but I’ll probably be better by the time it gets here. 🙄

Clean house. New GM should be able to hire his manager. New manager should be able to hire his staff from top to bottom.

I don't know. In 2021, the disagreements were over granular economic adjustments. In 2026, that appears to have evolved into an existential battle over a salary cap. I'm worried that Manfred and the owners are a lot more dug in this time.

andyzipp @andyzipp.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

Owners appear to taking a more hardline stance this time. I guess we'll see.

Astros question, but I've read/heard from a few people that they're guessing a GM will be named soon? Any idea what that's based on? There aren't going to be Winter Meetings, any Rule 5 draft will be delayed, arbitration season isn't until Jan, etc. Trades and FA can happen in Nov, but prob won't.

If you’re a head coach who is a defensive specialist, and your defense sucks, should you still be a head coach? Asking for DeMeco, but could also be asking for Elko…

Hunter Brown might as well have been an opener in Wednesday’s game. He went 2/3rds of an inning. But he did have a 40.50 ERA, so he has that going for him. After the lockout, I hope we have a GM that can sell the 2025 version to someone.

How in the world could Gregg Olsen tell that Porter eyerolled something by looking at the back of his helmet?

Are the refs being tricky tacky with some of the calls? Yes. Is picking up 6 penalties in 20 minutes of football a lack of discipline? Also yes.

While no one should be untouchable, trading young players with controllable years makes little sense (if the current rules still apply after the lockout.) You’d be doing that to acquire…young players with controllable years. Pena and Brown make a ton of sense. Wesneski and Smith not so much.

Some are currently spinning out because their income and influence may be affected negatively by a bad Astros team and/or an abbreviated playoff run.

Sure I’m a bitter old man, but after seeing a few wish lists of former players running the team next season… I want no one who has been part of this team since 2023 making any decisions on the field or in the front office. Reboot the whole thing.
