Although it’s starting to change as more parties get a foothold, one of the many issues with our political system is that it’s a shoot out between the 2 same old parties, which means the opposition is always the party that just failed. And so the interminable cycle just continues with no new ideas.

51 years. Wow. I remember watching it when I was 8 in 1979. My dad had it on video and I watched it whilst he was at work. Although I hardly understood any of it, I loved it. I felt that I had discovered a whole new world.

What I find strangest is the stark contrast between the Americans I know, their warmth, hospitality and the wonderful experience I've always had when I visit their country and the sheer stupidity, narcissism and pathetic posturing of their President, a convicted felon and recognised sex offender.

I'm watching clips of Trump's UN speech. I do my best to be civil and keep the language appropriate but he is a fucking idiot. I don't know if Americans care but he is trashing their nation on the international stage. It will take the USA a long time - if ever - to recover. It's desperately sad.

I married into a Yorkshire family who drink tea as if it is the elixir of life. Today, my son got back from school to find that I have let the Yorkshire tea run out and that there is only 'normal' tea available. I think it is the most disappointed he has even been in me.

Calling any watch aficionados out there. I have an old early 1970s Omega Seamaster handed down by my late father. All I have is the watch piece which is working but there’s no casing or any way of attaching a strap. Can you recommend anybody who could get it rehoused?

I'm having some blood tests that require me to live like a monk for a week beforehand so that I can fool the doctor about my lifestyle. These have now been postponed twice at the last minute requiring me to persist with living a lie for yet another week. I might end up healthy by accident.

I fully understand the difficulties of the assisted dying bill and the ethical complications about end of life in general but there’s just no way my mum would want this. That aside, the care and compassion from the very multi-cultural NHS staff looking after her is amazing & hugely appreciated.

Spent today with my mum. No reaction to my presence, voice or touch. Eyes mostly closed but even when they’re open she doesn’t appear to see me. It feels like a very cruel way for a long life to end & she always said not to let this happen. We really need a better way to treat advanced dementia.

Turned on #BBCQT. I haven't voted Green yet but it's refreshing to see Caroline Lucas. Irrespective of her environmental credentials, her intelligence, compassion & care for people is a welcome contrast, especially to the individualism of the Tory & Reform panellists. (I'm not a Labour voter either)

End of life procedures for the elderly seem so out-dated given how much everything else in life has advanced. I suspect it's because we just don't want to think about it. Given that we all die, I wonder if an advanced and compassionate death services sector will ever emerge?
