My suggestion is to force closure of the Moroun owned bridge. In conjunction with Canada, dig up every road leading to it on both sides of the border. Until there is an impact the government has no incentive to open the new bridge.

Good article, thank you. Where does the UK stand with overall energy needs? For example (made up numbers) do we have enough electricity but we are short of 20% gas and 50% of oil? As you say, lacking energy security is a huge lever for the US and others unfortunately.

So let’s see those increases in defence spending, it’s easy to say you are doing it but so far nothing has happened. By now we should have doubled the army, RAF and navy. Fund it by taxing digital services like Amazon etc. Let’s produce a million drones a year plus long range missiles.

Completely agree about agreeing with the essence and quibbles about some of the detail. Europe needs to include Ukraine and the UK quickly and exclude from decisions those who are trying to destabilise from within.

My thoughts are - After Russia collapses, close the borders completely for anything travelling into Kaliningrad. Allow & encourage people to leave and take their possessions with them. Effectively empty the enclave without changing nationality. Later Moscow can trade the land in exchange for food

There's a huge push and ridiculous offers on them in the UK for company cars on lease. So a lot we see on the roads are none-choice options and big fleet companies only look at cost and residuals not if the owner is a shit weasel.

It should be considered now. I would guess it will take 6 months from deciding to actually having people start their training. There will be legislation to pass, facilities to be setup, equipment to be bought. So start considering now, we can always wind it down if it’s unnecessary.

Russia is constantly launching cyber attacks against Europe and the US. No one in Europe is scared, we just do the work to mitigate it and work to make things safer. We have national monitoring and support, training for organisations and specialists who can help - it’s not scary, just good practice

Increase spending to at least 3% this year, 4% next year and aim higher. It’s imperative we can stand up for ourselves. Practical steps mean activating our reserves, de-mothballing ships, building more planes and starting the process of rebuilding national service along the Finland model.
