One feels like they're throwing their energy into a black hole whenever reading AI generated documents. They provide too much information and don't make sense, even if the text at face value makes sense. That's because they didn't directly come from a human being.

AI can be a nasty productivity killer for teams. Nothing kills productivity faster than having to read an AI document generated by a teammate, especially when not knowing it's AI text. Those documents are totally soulless. #ai #productivity #killer

Claude one shot a working component for me on the very first try So, I will keep maintaining it as a better Web Frontend option than everything else that's available in JavaScript and other languages (like Clojurescript, Elm, and Dart), thanks to the awesomeness of Ruby.

Glimmer DSL for Web adopts the simplest Frontend approach possible in any programming language and has been tested with AI generation. It works nicely because of its simple approach.

React.js has such a bad design that it could cause ridiculous issues as the Frontendn grows just because of its bad "reactive architecture", which was always a bad idea (but no one was courageous enough to point it out because of the bad React.js bullying culture).

DHH suggested AI options for Native desktop/mobile apps and the Backend, but did not address the Web Frontend. JavaScript and React.js are not reliable options for bigger apps, and WASM results in large downloadables.

I thought about one more DOM mutation to support in Glimmer DSL for Web, "replace" (as in replace an element in place with another element). I have it working on my machine. I will implement the data-binding alternative in a different sample before release. #web #frontend #ai #glimmer #dsl #web

I realize people will excuse this by saying one shouldn't work in a synchronous way anyways, yet by asking AI to do even more tasks in parallel, but that violates Steve Jobs' recommendation to focus and Lean's recommendation to work on one task at a time. W/o focus, work quality indirectly suffers.

Correction: I used Swift not Rust. This was an example of Native UI on the Mac, not Rust.
000
andymaleh.bsky.social @andymaleh.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Still, I am willing to consider it. It would be interesting to try building some apps with Rust or Native UI languages like C++ and Swift via AI as a learning experiment. In fact, I already tried building a native Mac calculator app with Rust and got this app that's in the attached screenshot.
100
andymaleh.bsky.social @andymaleh.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
And, if the AI mastered Rust enough, then we might not need Ruby on Rails anymore. I believe the jury is out on that one though. Building a Rust app with AI quickly is not enough to prove that. An app must be maintained for 2 years at least to know if the AI approach is practical.
200
andymaleh.bsky.social @andymaleh.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
But, Rust has very difficult to read syntax, and it is statically compiled. So, if AI mastered Rust, then we could take advantage of that.
100
andymaleh.bsky.social @andymaleh.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
I personally don't find AI helpful with Ruby because Ruby is already very terse, and I could come up with better code ideas in it as a Master Rubyist than what AI comes up with.

Glimmer DSL for Web somehow survived the whole Gen AI revolution intact and even became more valuable than before given how garbage are all the JavaScript frontend alternatives are. Great news for Glimmer DSL for Web!!!

AI can generate Glimmer DSL for Web Frontend features with much simpler and more reliable code than React's as attested by my own experience with this. Glimmer avoids over-engineering with a much more elegant design. #glimmer #dsl #web #rails #railsworld #ai #dhh #frontend #development #software
120
andymaleh.bsky.social @andymaleh.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
The most interesting thing about DHH's talk today is that he can replace desktop/mobile apps with Native while replacing backend layers with Rust, but the Frontend can still not get rid of garbage React.js because generated vanilla JS code is even less reliable, unless we use Glimmer DSL for Web!

My Rails team had an incident retro, and one of the things that were brought up is 5 Senior Software Engineers used different kinds of AI to troubleshoot the problem and all failed to figure it out, but when I did some manual investigation for like 5 minutes, I figured out the problem without AI.
