Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 28/12/2025The year is more or less finished so a summary of 2025, there was a lot of moth trapping in the field. So… I made 3,466 records 778 different species, 480 of those were moths. 129 species were new to me during 2025. Moths accounted for 74 new species for me so I now have 602 moths on my life list. 080
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 18/10/2025The weather isn't looking great. I'm in London most of this coming week so running out of time to get a last cliff trap out for those few moths I seem to only get in the south. 010
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 18/10/2025A few moths last night, cold and breezy this morning, but nice to see Autumnal Rustic, my fist since 2020 and only third ever, not a common moth in my garden. Photo's: Autumnal Rustic Turnip Moth Rusty Dot Pearl Feathered Ranunculus 140
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 24/08/2025Long-tailed Skua. Great bird but not very helpful for photo's staying clear of the boat. 070
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 24/08/2025The Fulmar were very obliging today, really like this shot. 040
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 24/08/2025Adult Sabine's Gull out on the #Guernsey #pelagic today, way out there in Hurd Deep. Stunning gulls 030
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 24/08/2025Fulmar were close to the boat... Adore these! #Guernsey #Pelagic 010
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 23/08/2025Low numbers in the trap last night but a Rosy Underwing made up for that. #Guernsey #mothsmatter 0130
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 09/08/2025Two options for this Caloptilia, both nice to get. Questions is, which one is it? @mothiduk.bsky.social @gyrcrakes.bsky.social 130
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 07/08/2025Flying Ants at sunset. Lasius sp. I think. #Guernsey 030
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 03/08/2025Trapped in a wooded valley on the South Coast of Guernsey last night. A small site. 69 species including a few very nice ones. Photo's of some of the new to me moths below. See Alt text for names. 1245
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 02/08/2025Some moths from a La Societe Entomology Section outing to Grand Pre NR on 12th July. We ran 6 traps and captured 97 species of moth. The bug is one of the Saldidae - Shore Bugs - Chartoscirta cincta and these are a new species for Guernsey. Photo's labelled in Alt Text. 090
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 29/06/2025But I do wonder if it's a retention thing with the wide hole on my commercial made mini robinson trap. 000
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 29/06/2025It works fine at home! Maybe these dark places are different. I'll change the bulb next outing. 010
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 29/06/2025Most interesting was the moths per trap. The MV just doesn't perform in the field, maybe too easy for moths to escape compared to my homemade skinner style traps. 63+ of 36 to MV, 91+ of 51 to Twin 30w Actinic tubes and 137+ of 54 to the little 20w Wemlite + 20W Black UV (the + is Least Carpets!) 100
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 29/06/2025It was done quickly due to the midges! Excluding Least carpets (of which I estimate over 100, I stopped counting), 291 other moths, not sure on species count over the 3 traps yet, need to get them all together, but i think 5 new to me species in there, but still no Striped Hawk... 000
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 29/06/2025This might be interesting. Agdistis sp Plume Moth on the cliffs last night in Guernsey. Will have to investigate the differences @mothiduk.bsky.social 391
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 28/06/2025However, it's probably italica, which is also rare here. 000
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 28/06/2025@mothiduk.bsky.social looks like this might be Metalampha sp and more like M.cinnamomea with the dark colour. VC113 Guernsey. Heavy migrant night. Any comments or opinions please? 450
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 19/06/2025A few nice oce moths this morning. Not a huge number of migrants but a pair of Feline is pretty special and I assume migrant as I've never had one in 12 years of trapping here. Also Marbled White Spot rare for here, a few Small Mottled Willow, Dark Swordgrass as common migrants. 160
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 17/05/202533 species in the moth trap this morning, including this fantastic Tawny-barred Angle. New for Garden. VC113. #guernsey #mothsmatter 0311
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 11/05/2025It's very wet out, but hopefully these heavy showers will subside and the gentle F2/3 originating in North Africa and coming across the continent will bring us something nice as well as whatever local moths are about ready for tomorrow's #bioblitz. #mothsmatter 040
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 09/05/2025Gibbaranea bituberculata on the Guernsey cliffs yesterday along with an Alopecosa sp. 0113
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 29/03/2025A few things from the big low tide today. Common Spider Crab - Macropedia rostrata Common Squat Lobster Aeolidia papillosa Geitodoris planata maybe or another suggestion of Atagema gibba, waiting for experts 1100
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 23/03/2025First moth trap of 2025, I am a little behind... Moths: 1. Dotted Border 2. Seraphim 3. Acleris literana (new one for me) 4. Caloptilia stigmatella Also had Waved Umber, Hebrew Character, Common Quaker, Rusty Dot Pearl and Bloxworth Snout who didn't stay for a photo. It is still March... 2151
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 16/03/2025It's taken 10 years to get 1, be hundreds by next year! 100
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 23/02/2025Photos 5 and 6, forgot it's only 4 max on a post... 010
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 23/02/2025A few photo's from a quick visit to L'Eree Shinglebank. 1. Seaweed Flies aplenty 2. Mediterranean Gull 3. Black-headed Gull 4. Wren 5. Wren having a break 6. Meadow Pipit deciding which fly to eat next 150
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 02/02/2025Aplysia fasciata I think. Awesome Sea Hares and massive! Much more friendly than the normal ones who squirt purple liquid if you so much as look at them. #Guernsey #Intertidal #Marine 1152
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 02/02/2025A couple of new species seen yesterday on the lower shore in Guernsey, got to use these big tides and nice weather! Seems like ages since we saw the sun! Liocarcinus corrugatus, the wrinkled Swimming Crab and Jewel Anemone. Both nice to see for the first time! #Guernsey #Marine #Intertidal 0110
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 11/01/2025A search of leaf litter between Christmas and New Year, to fill in a gap on the map, provided several non-natives including Strumigenys perplexa and the tricky to ID Hypoponera eduardi. Outdoors in #Guernsey, 3rd location for the Hypoponera and 11th for the Strumigenys. #ants #hymenoptera 1152
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 05/01/2025Adding another image showing no long fringe hairs on side of pronotum 000
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 05/01/2025Any #beetle #Coleoptera folk around Bluesky? I think this keys towards Melinopterus sphacelatus but I am not certain. Could do better pictures if it wasn't moving so much... Found walking up a wall this morning near open farmland, #Guernsey. 1112
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 04/01/2025And many other non natives i should add, due to the garden centre across the road. 020
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 04/01/2025From the same place as that first D.larvatus (which ended up being something like 2 days after the IoW one, gutted!) 000
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 04/01/2025This species is now plentiful in Guernsey, almost more so than other species combined in places. 130
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 27/12/2024Also found these in the same sample. Found 14 sieving litter so likely more I missed. Another new location, they are very much widespread. Strumigenys perplexa. 050
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 27/12/2024Still have to write that up, seems like hard work though 000
