Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 28/12/2025The year is more or less finished so a summary of 2025, there was a lot of moth trapping in the field. So… I made 3,466 records 778 different species, 480 of those were moths. 129 species were new to me during 2025. Moths accounted for 74 new species for me so I now have 602 moths on my life list. 080
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 18/10/2025A few moths last night, cold and breezy this morning, but nice to see Autumnal Rustic, my fist since 2020 and only third ever, not a common moth in my garden. Photo's: Autumnal Rustic Turnip Moth Rusty Dot Pearl Feathered Ranunculus 140
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 24/08/2025Long-tailed Skua. Great bird but not very helpful for photo's staying clear of the boat. 070
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 24/08/2025The Fulmar were very obliging today, really like this shot. 040

Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 23/08/2025Low numbers in the trap last night but a Rosy Underwing made up for that. #Guernsey #mothsmatter 0130
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 09/08/2025Two options for this Caloptilia, both nice to get. Questions is, which one is it? @mothiduk.bsky.social @gyrcrakes.bsky.social 130

Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 29/06/2025This might be interesting. Agdistis sp Plume Moth on the cliffs last night in Guernsey. Will have to investigate the differences @mothiduk.bsky.social 391
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 28/06/2025@mothiduk.bsky.social looks like this might be Metalampha sp and more like M.cinnamomea with the dark colour. VC113 Guernsey. Heavy migrant night. Any comments or opinions please? 450
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 19/06/2025A few nice oce moths this morning. Not a huge number of migrants but a pair of Feline is pretty special and I assume migrant as I've never had one in 12 years of trapping here. Also Marbled White Spot rare for here, a few Small Mottled Willow, Dark Swordgrass as common migrants. 160
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 17/05/202533 species in the moth trap this morning, including this fantastic Tawny-barred Angle. New for Garden. VC113. #guernsey #mothsmatter 0311
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 11/05/2025It's very wet out, but hopefully these heavy showers will subside and the gentle F2/3 originating in North Africa and coming across the continent will bring us something nice as well as whatever local moths are about ready for tomorrow's #bioblitz. #mothsmatter 040
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 09/05/2025Gibbaranea bituberculata on the Guernsey cliffs yesterday along with an Alopecosa sp. 0113

Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 02/02/2025Aplysia fasciata I think. Awesome Sea Hares and massive! Much more friendly than the normal ones who squirt purple liquid if you so much as look at them. #Guernsey #Intertidal #Marine 1152
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 02/02/2025A couple of new species seen yesterday on the lower shore in Guernsey, got to use these big tides and nice weather! Seems like ages since we saw the sun! Liocarcinus corrugatus, the wrinkled Swimming Crab and Jewel Anemone. Both nice to see for the first time! #Guernsey #Marine #Intertidal 0110
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 11/01/2025A search of leaf litter between Christmas and New Year, to fill in a gap on the map, provided several non-natives including Strumigenys perplexa and the tricky to ID Hypoponera eduardi. Outdoors in #Guernsey, 3rd location for the Hypoponera and 11th for the Strumigenys. #ants #hymenoptera 1152
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 05/01/2025Any #beetle #Coleoptera folk around Bluesky? I think this keys towards Melinopterus sphacelatus but I am not certain. Could do better pictures if it wasn't moving so much... Found walking up a wall this morning near open farmland, #Guernsey. 1112
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 04/01/2025This species is now plentiful in Guernsey, almost more so than other species combined in places. 130
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 27/12/2024Also found these in the same sample. Found 14 sieving litter so likely more I missed. Another new location, they are very much widespread. Strumigenys perplexa. 050
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 27/12/2024The things that appear in roadside leaf litter. This is going to be tough to get to species! Hypoponera/ponera sp. #Guernsey #ants 150
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 22/12/2024Found this in November in my lettuce which originated in Spain, so of course it's exciting to someone like me! Turns out to be Nesidiocoris tenuis which is new to the British Isles, just getting it added to the UKSI. They predate aphids etc so was probably trapped whilst eating its dinner... 070
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 21/12/2024I have now added studies of the Guernsey Odonata and Orthoptera, which covers quite a wide variety of species. The lists are now complete (I think), just need to add photographs which I will work on. www.guernseywildlife.co.uk/studies/index 1130
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 16/12/2024Myrmica sabuleti lateral view of the head. I hope to be able to do some proper photographs of other small inverts in my collection over the winter. I am pretty sure I say that most winters so don't get too excited just yet! I have plenty of other work to be doing! 0130
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 15/12/2024I will be adding the Orthoptera next as we check on the Guernsey species including the newest species added to the British Isles list in Summer '24 from a site in Guernsey, Tessellana tessellata, the Brown-spotted Bush-cricket. Bat detectors around the island suggest it may actually be widespread. 020
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 15/12/2024I've finally finished loading images into my Studies of Guernsey Invertebrates. Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 01/12/2024Just the one moth last night. Rusty Dot... I guess the migrants all went straight over Guernsey and didn't stop! 010
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 30/11/2024An enforced upgrade to my website means I now have a new site! My old package was out of date and no longer SSL supported so upgrade time. Now fixed and I have the backbone of pages back up and working again... Now comes the task of adding a load of photo's... www.guernseywildlife.co.ukguernseywildlife.co.ukHomeWebsite of Andy Marquis studying the wildlife of Guernsey in the British Channel Islands with information and photographs. 3163
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 29/11/2024More ants... Messor capitatus were found on the #Guernsey cliff paths in July by Paul Brock and Andy Smith who were actually looking for another ant. I visited the area and observed workers carrying seeds back to the nest, protected by some major workers. The huge head and jaws apparent in images. 0120
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 28/11/2024I'm hoping to do a bit more work on ants next year. Here are two Formica pratensis workers. One of the wood ant species, these build large nests on the #Guernsey cliffs. They are now extinct in the UK, so we are working to try and protect them. 1191

Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 23/11/2024I also do some intertidal and marine work with the Pan-species hat on. I quite enjoy poking about in rockpools and under rocks. These photo's from a foray in October on Guernsey's west coast. There are of course marine insects to be found as well as all of the normal species you would expect. 2152

Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 23/11/2024Some #moths from the cliff trap late October in #Guernsey. Nice to see different species by field trapping, garden traps tend to be quite similar. The weather suggests I might not be doing much more trapping this season, from experience the winter simply isn't worth the effort here. 061
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 21/11/2024Old photo popped up in memories today. I remember this interaction very, very well! 060
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 17/11/2024A selection of Southern Green Shieldbug including adult form torquata and different stages of nymphs. The species now well established in #Guernsey 0311
Andy Marquis @andym105.bsky.social · 11/11/2024Homemade Skinner Mk2 progress. Not wholly different to the Mk1 but with added stainless mesh to allow rain to drain if it rains in the night. Just need to fit the internal bits to rest the perspex and lights on now. #moths #lepidoptera #mothtrap 130
