Very nice to hear a sane voice from Piddington. Serious respect to this woman, who is apparently already being othered by more bigoted villagers.

Petition: Fully fund Specialist Palliative Care provided by hospices

I’m currently considering whether or not I should continue to give charitable donations to our local hospice. All hospices should be supported by central Government in their vital work. Are the donations of myself and thousands of others helping the Government ignore its duty?

Just making a note here on the 11th September, 2026 Assisted Dying legislation voted down in UK Parliament by MPs. Palliative and Social care not currently available or funded for all those who need it. Let’s see if this changes over next few years.

Thank you for your answer. Hoping that both palliative care improvements are quickly introduced and that a more agreeable proposal returns to Parliament in order to help reduce unnecessary suffering.

Was there anything stopping MPs turning the proposed legislation into a workable Bill? Maybe insisting that palliative and social care had to be fully funded for all those in need before it was introduced or that those awaiting assistance were in care of some sort (and away from negative influence)?

andyhill7.bsky.social @andyhill7.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
I sincerely hope that palliative care improves, I really do. But I see the risk of the status quo continuing, with hospices desperate for funding and the Government and Treasury turning a blind eye to the continuing suffering of some of the terminally ill.

andyhill7.bsky.social @andyhill7.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
I can easily imagine that the call for better palliative care for all those in need will now slowly fade as its cost is dismissed as excessive by a cash strapped Treasury. Some terminally ill people will continue to suffer for longer whilst waiting for their painful (but natural) demise. 😢

Thank you for sharing your letter/explanation for your voting intention. However, it does seem to me that this might prolong or increase suffering for people at the end of their terminal illness. If palliative care is not available in sufficient volume could it be increased as part of this Bill?

How many adverts like this needed to be watched by a ‘low information voter’ before they were convinced that Brexit was a great idea? And the same voter is still waiting impatiently for ‘someone’ to deliver what was promised to improve their life.

Being a carer means showing up every day, doing what needs to be done, often without anyone noticing. That’s why I’m so glad Carers Week this year is all about building carer-friendly communities, where carers are recognised and supported.

Thank you for asking the question Rachel. After listening to the answer I would think that having one central compensation body would allow for more efficient operations, even if every scheme had to have a bespoke “customer facing” element. Also not sure why it might not be legal to run it this way.

I sometimes wonder what Government, businesses and the public would do (and call to be done) if diesel and petrol fell safely from the sky like rain. I can easily imagine the calls for collecting “buckets” and reservoirs being set up across the country, along with pipelines to move it all around.

Is there a similar calculation from when the country started using electricity for the very first time? I imagine that the cost of the very first national grid would have been quite high and would have put off a lot of sensible “steam powered” people. But was it money well spent?

Reform will win seats with or without PR. However with a good form of PR they wouldn’t achieve an overall majority (50%+) at their current polling levels. I suppose the issue for the Labour Party is that they would never achieve a majority again either, and that might be “unthinkable”.
